So what's the deal. Have we flipped Glencross for B. Schenn yet or what?

Ugh i hope Burke makes the trade and not Feaster then.
Remember the last time a team coveted one of our players for years?
Feaster got a Byron and a Butler...

I was talking about them right now and separated Monahan as he could turn into that as early as this year, but Jankowski likely should have been in a different category than the other guys listed as a guy that in my view isn't that and will never be that but does have time to completely change what he has shown/his skill level.

Impatient teams will always pay a premium for a more developed player to win now versus a few years from now.

Yes, but the difference was, they elected to trade Reghre well past his trade value prime. Glencross would be a very desirable comodity right now, based on contract and stats, NMC aside.

I doubt we'd get Schenn for Glencross, but considering it's highly unlikely he will ever wait(for the next few seasons anyways) that's the type of deal that would probably really pressure him into maybe waiving.

Well, his offensive skill level is on par with that of Monahan. He has great offensive vision, a great skater, and just passes extraordinarily well. He is a project for sure, and he may never live up to the 'Nieuwendyk' comparison, but at this moment he is probably the most skilled center prospect with the highest upside.
Monahan is indeed a vastly superior prospect because he doesn't have as many obstacles and his floor is much higher, but Jankowski's ceiling is really that of a #1 center in this league. He is just much more of a project, and I can understand for that reason why you are more hesitant to group him at that level.
Only time will tell how he separates himself (both up or down) from the other center prospects.
If I were to rank our center prospects (including Backlund for argument's sake), in terms of pure skill:
Jankowski
Monahan
Granlund
Backlund
Reinhart
Byron
Knight
Colborne
Arnold
For 'floor', I would rank:
Backlund
Monahan
Reinhart
Knight
Colborne
Arnold
Jankowski
Byron
I am guessing you are basing your outlook on Jankowski more on his floor rather than his skill-level in comparison to the rest of the centers.

Depending on what and who you believe, the Flames attempted to move Regehr prior to a perceived decline in play.

I wonder if we could get three 2nd round picks for Butler and Byron if we eat a contract, or if Regehr's trade value is a sine wave?

Based on what exactly?
Monahan was just picked 6th in a supposed deep draft, Jankowski was picked 21st in a supposed average draft. Monahan is looked at as a virtual lock to be 1st line center on the WJHC team and Jankowski is a long shot to make the team.
I know many people have bought into the Jankowski is boom or bust so boom means he is going to be great if he hits but I haven't read a single reliable prospect report on him to indicate he has a higher ceiling or more skill than Monahan.
He certainly hasn't shown it to this point in their respective careers so what are you basing him having more skill and a higher upside than Monahan on?
Also do you honestly think if Jankowski was drafted by the Oilers/Canucks and Monahan was still a Flames prospect you would have the same view about them?

I am basing my ranking on Jankowski on my outlook that there is no way he has the same ceiling as Monahan let alone a higher ceiling. I think absolute best case scenario (baring crazy situation a la St. Louis where guy takes huge jump that nobody saw coming) Jankowski turns into decent 50 point 2nd line center. I think likely he turns into a guy that gets 20-40 games because of where he was picked and spends most of career in Euro leagues.

At the end of the day if the flames move Glennie it won't be soon and probably not to the flyers. I can only see him waiving for the Oilers or a team like Chicago, Boston, LA, Pittsburgh.

What do you base your rankings on? How many times have you seen Jankowski play? I bet that can be counted on one finger, at the most, and that was probably a development scrimmage. You have no idea what type of player Jankowski is because you haven't seen him play, so how can you speak to what the guy projects as?
Anyone who watched him last season will tell you the difference between his early season performance and the player he was in the post-season was night and day. The kid grew leaps and bounds in every facet of his game. He's an exceptional talent with some developmental challenges, those being his weight and his experience with systems. He's putting on weight well enough and he's learning those systems. He played in the tightest defensive system in all of college hockey last year and acquitted himself quite well.
I seriously have no idea how you come to these incredible conclusions without ever seeing these youngsters play? A kid that is two months older than Monahan is a bust and Europe bound, even though there is nothing indicated anywhere that the player has not lived up to expectations. In fact, the kid has surpassed a lot of management's experience. I don't know what is with you? You chastise someone for being a Jankowski fan only because he was drafted by the Flames. I think the only reason you hate the kid is because he was drafted by the Flames. There has been nothing to come out that would make anyone sour on this kid. Even in redrafts he holds his position or rises. What is it, other than who drafted him, that you don't like. What aspect of his game have you seen that you can be critical of?

I base it on reading reports from those that have seen him play, comparing stats against others that play with him against him and have played before him, looking at his accomplishments (ie. what teams he has made, what levels he has played at, what individual awards he has won). It is possible to form opinions on guys in the age of the internet and extensive reporting done on players especially first round picks.

What indication is that he is an exceptional talent? It is great that he improved as the season went on. I would expect that is the case for almost every freshman player and especially one that was a first round pick. As Chris Rock would say "improving is what he is supposed to do."

Not sure what incredible conclusions I came to and never said he was a bust at all. I don't expect much out of him but put his ceiling as a second line center. That would be a very good result for a guy drafted at 21 and far from someone I think is a bust right now.
Nothing to do with who drafted him in my view. What I am not keen on (and have never been keen on) is his very low level of competition. People can make up all the excuses they want about his size and his struggles with growth but for me a kid that played Quebec High school and then went on to a lower level NCAA school raises some questions. His okay not great numbers and so-so play overall at the NCAA also raises issues for me. Sounds like he got better as the year went on as you said but still concerns he wasn't better. I also have concerns when the "best" thing that I hear from Jankowski defenders seems to be that he is growing into his body so will get better when that happens. Rarely do I hear comments about how great he played in this game or the big numbers he put up here. I am leery about a guy that always seem to have the caveat about will be this or that rather than is already showing this or that.
I asked the poster to say why he thought Jankowski had a higher ceiling than Monahan. I never chastised him at all for liking the kid. I don't hate the kid at all and was down on him prior to draft before I knew who would or wouldn't take him at all. Plus I love Monahan who is a Flame pick so seems weird that I would like one draft pick and dislike the other just because of the team that drafted them. But it does seem like a typical BS attack on me rather than addressing the issue that you so often resort to.
I can easily point out reasons that I think Monahan has a higher ceiling much better production in much better leagues, already impressing at the NHL level even though a younger player and a year behind in development, ranked and drafted much higher in his draft year and would have been ranked and taken higher had he been in the same draft as Jankowski (whether this year or last), key member of Team Canada junior teams and likely to be one this year if released for WJHC.

Ill disagree.
Jankowski was drafted out of a High School Hockey League and made the jump to the NCAA.
Monahan was drafted after three years in the OHL.
Its very likely that Monahan ends up the better player, I just think Jankowski has lots of potential to grow and thankfully will be given time to do it in the NCAA.

Disagree? Jankowski was drafted last year, Monahan drafted this year. Jankowski has one more year of development than Monahan.
Not sure why Jankowski not being good enough to play high level hockey is always used as a positive for him.

Jankowski had a huge growth spurt which is the reason he wasn't an OHL player.
Given his play in the NCAA last year he easily could of been a solid OHLer.
I still disagree that Jankowski has a year more of development. Given that they are born a month apart and Monahan has played three years in the OHL.

Agree with Moon here.
Monahan is being underrated in his offensive ability. The kid was a 6th overall pick, just because he can play a strong defensive game that does not mean he does not have 1st line offensive ability.
Jankowski does have a high ceiling due to his size and skill set but Monahan still has a ceiling that is higher and his skill gets overlooked.
