The pressure Bärtschi is feeling is the same pressure any first round pick feels, and I don't think he's faced much adversity yet, to be honest. I don't see anything alarming or out of the ordinary in the situation, wherever he plays this season.
Don't know what's best for him but he'll learn to deal with it. People often need to be pushed out of their comfort zone to grow and that's by definition unpleasant. Might make you grumpy for a while but that's not so terrible.

If the organisation feels Baertschi would benefit more from some time in the AHL then it is silly to question the decision (though that is what most people are here to do).
I think he'll be with the Flames, but there's an outside chance he gets demoted. If he does it's not a huge deal; I think there's no doubt he'll be a player. I'd like to see him play more consistently & some time in the minors to get his mojo back might do the trick.

while most agree that sending him to the AHL may not be a negative, why is it silly to question arguably the worst run hockey operations department in the league over the past few years? after years of failure, why are people willing to continue giving a pass to our management?
personally, i get the impression that sven is a player that needs his hand held a little bit to succeed. with that in mind, they should ensure that he gets top 6 minutes to start the season. this team is going nowhere for the next 3-4 years anyways, may as well do it with him in a position to succeed.

We are not, and even the team isn't giving them a free pass. This is why you saw the hiring of Brian Burke. His job is to provide a consistent oversight and vision beyond several general managers, coaches, scouts, etc. so that it becomes clear what the problems are over time. Knowing Burke's personality, I would also say he's likely to hold people accountable for failures going forward.

It looks like the Canucks will start the season with 3 rookies: Corrado, Horvat, and Shinkaruk. It looks like we may not start the season with Baertschi and/or Monahan.
The Canucks are playing their young players in top 6/4 roles with good players. Which team is supposed to be rebuilding?

Burke being involved lends more credence to idea of sending Baertschi down. Remember what the Leafs did with Kadri when expectations were through the roof and kid just wasn't impressing? Pretty good move in the long run.

The fact that Sven himself feels he only got opportunities "here and there" completely underscores what the problem likely is. The guy seems to only views playing with top players or vets as opportunities, and every other shifts he gets is a waste?
What he doesn't get is if he doesn't make this team it's likely not going to be because he didn't put enough points. The coaches know if he's not playing with top players it will impact his output. What they likely want to see is what he does in the lesser situation, what he does away from the puck or how he does with lesser players. The fact he's only interested in putting up points to prove himself is probably the problem.

It does not look like that. Get your eyes checked.

But they are looking fine in those roles because they are supported by other teammates. Are you really rushing prospects if you put them in good positions to have success, as opposed to 8 minutes a night on the 4th line (like Baertschi at the start of last season)?

To me it sounds like both Bärtschi and Monahan are in.
Shinkaruk is going to spend most of the season in various horizontal positions on the ice.

I can't speak to Corrado, but Horvat is very likely getting sent down. Tortorella hasn't been over the moon about him, and he only played during their last game because of suspensions.
Not sure where your assumption is coming from.

Riiiiight.
It might help if Corado hadn't already been sent down before you posted this.
Garbage as usual.

I'll be surprised if Bartschi doesn't at least start the season in the NHL considering his performance at the end of last season. Other than that, people who are making character judgements based on a sentence or two in a media interview are a little loony.

Dude, that is a heckuva lot of speculation. I don't think I've heard anything from anybody about any of these things.
Can we please wait until something happens before deciding that this player thinks this or the coaching staff thinks this. Or how about we wait until we actually hear what they do think, you know, from their own mouths?

I live in BC and this is not true. Horvat is not going to make the team, Corrado has already been cut and Shinkaruk is getting playing time in top 6 because of injuries. I will give Shinkaruk some credit that when he has the puck he has made the most of his opportunities.
If Sven needs to play with skilled guys, he is going to have to wait a couple of years. Most of the flames team is made up of 3rd liners. I really only see 3 players in the lineup that would play top 6 on good teams and 2 of them play the same position as Sven.
Anyways it does not matter. He might be on the "bubble" but he is ahead of other bubble players. Feaster is just trying to light a fire under Sven to show he is not guaranteed anything.

Lol wait a couple years? We may as well trade him now before we completely ruin him.
Cammalleri, Glencross, Hudler... We have skilled players.

Perhaps the saddest thing about this collective hand wringing is it shows just how long it's been since we've had a prospect with real potential.
Everybody seriously needs to relax.
