I was just coming here to ask the same thing. Just called Saddledome customer service and the person I spoke to said they can indeed be scanned through a smart phone.

Darn, I guess that means I may have gone back to work for no reason.
Thanks for nothing, corporatejay!!

Sorry dude. I'm pissed too. I asked this exact question when I went to the flames oilers game and they told me it won't scan off the phone.

I use my iPhone for my tickets now. However I still don't think it's very common as the dude scanning always seems a little surprised.

We tried a few times to get the scanner to work with the phone and it didn't. Held up the line nicely as well.
What's the trick for getting the phone to work?

The one thing is I made sure to resize the barcode on the PDF to be about the same size as you would see on the paper tickets. I also did that prior to getting to the door.
The times I have used it; the ticket scanned on the first try. No issues at all.
I also have an iPhone 5; maybe it could be issues with specific phones.

It's worked every time for me. Make sure your brightness is up.

If you have a screen protector on your phone that could be the issue

The key to getting barcodes scanned on the iPhone and any other smartphone is to increase the screen brightness to FULL, as csnarpy mentioned.
If you run the Passbook app in iOS you will notice that it automatically increases the screen brightness so that the correct barcode contrast exists against the background.

Does anyone know if the Flames are still doing paperless this year? I just got the annual email saying:
"We hope that you are enjoying your summer. The 2014-15 season is just around the corner and we trust you are as excited as we are!
We are pleased to announce that we will continue the secure service of delivering your tickets by Canada Post XpressPost. Season ticket packages will be mailed the first week of September. An email with your XpressPost tracking number will be sent at that time."
Does this mean they are sending paper ticket packeges or just the scan cards again?

Yes, at the STH event in June, Ken King said that paperless tickets are here to stay.

Really? I called in this morning to speak to an Account Rep and the guy told me that everyone was going to receive paperless tickets initially but that there would be an option to get paper tickets and that there would be no additional charge.
He didn't have a lot of details (which made me feel less than assured of course) and said the information would come in the package that was being mailed out. That's just what I heard. I am going to call in tomorrow to see if my specific Account Rep is in to confirm this.

Yeah, you can get them printed out if you want, but the default is paperless. Same as last season.

Does anyone know how the press level food deal will work? Like, will there be a set of extra tickets for food or something? Im a little concerned as to their transferability (since I live in the deep south and can't go to every game).

I sure am enjoying this playoff run but when I was chatting with a friend I commented how awesome it would be to get a nice old school ticket during the playoffs that you could keep as a souvenir. I understand why they don’t do it anymore but man it would be cool again. Call me old school but the old paper print out just misses something.

I'm the same way, I've kept every ticket from every game I've been to since I can remember. Still have my 04 finals ticket.

Maybe the Flames should create and print off commemorative cardstock tickets for the playoffs as a keepsake. Hand out at the gates...better than the thundersticks or plastic clappers or the multiple iterations of the scarf.

It's a shame, the last cool ticket stub I remember getting was the 2011 winter classic. I sill have that one.

That's a great idea. As a ticket holder I would even pay more to get a nice glossy ticket that I could keep. At least for the Playoffs.
