Maybe me saying its a hard sell is a wrong, but I consider it a hard sell because I am there for groceries and now I have to tell someone that I'm not interested in their other product. I just want to be left alone while I shop!
I think the worst guy is the STARS calendar salesman. That guy cannot take no for an answer.

Well I am disappointed that they are closing the Douglas Square one because I do 99% of my grocery shopping there. Guess it's Co-op now when they close.

Yeah, and it's their cheap, stupid policy for all customers to bag their own groceries, leading to longer delays at the till. It's not the customer's policy, its their policy, so therefore it's another knock against Superstore and the crappy shopping experience there.

You have to be careful which side of the mall you walk at Northland Mall to avoid all the touts offering free samples.

The still do that at my local Co-op.
Every visit, "Would you like a hand out to your vehicle?"
And I'm a bit surprised the London Town Sobeys is closing - that is a relatively new store. There is a Safeway across the road; I wonder if they are keeping it because it was recently renovate, better business, or maybe they want to keep the Safeway gas bar.

The best was when they would bug you when you filled up with gas. I'm paying at the pump to avoid people. #### off.

And that policy is known upfront so why complain about it if you shop in their stores? The customer has the knowledge to avoid the store if this frustrates the heck out of them.

Yeah, but your original response was to all of us saying we hate shopping at Superstore. Your post was you wondering why people hate superstore, and then listing reasons why other grocery store suck.
I guess it's just a little confusion in the many things being said in this thread.
-Lost of posters explained why they hate Superstore and avoid it
-You wondered why and explained why you like it and how other grocer stores also suck
-I explained that one of the crappy things at superstore that you say is the customers fault is actually the stores fault because of their policy, and one of the many that keep many in this thread out of their stores.
-You then explained that we have that knowledge up front, so why not avoid the store? Which we do
I guess the confusion was you thinking that the people complaining shop there all the time and complain, when the reality is most of us have been there, not liked it and now try to avoid shopping there. But this thread is a discussion about grocery stores where everyone was giving their opinion about various chains.
Which is why a lot of us gave an overwhelming "This grocery store blows ass and should be avoided at all costs" review of the wonderful Supertsore.

As far as I am concerned, each grocery sucks at something. I was very clear in pointing out that I am not loyal to any one grocery chain.
I explained that I thought Superstore had improved dramatically and I listed why I don't buy certain products in some of the other grocery stores.

I felt the same way about them at one time but as they renovated their stores over the last 3 years, that simply is not the case anymore. Their produce has improved dramatically in that period of time. I mainly shop at their Shawnessy store and find it to be very nice. I don't however shop exclusively at any grocery store.
|
The last time I was at Superstore was a couple of months ago, and the Shawnessy store is exactly the store I had in mind when I wrote all that.
Their produce is still awful, and makes me wonder if you've truly set food in another grocery store if you think the half-composted vegetables they sell are comparable in quality to what you can buy elsewhere.

Anytime I shop at Superstore I end up deciding I'd be happy to pay higher prices to avoid shopping at Superstore.

Incompetent, slow cashiers.
Hostile customer service people.
And the worst sin: warm beer in the liquor store.

I have never experienced any of this (apart from one busy store one time mentioned in a previous post) at the multiple locations I have shopped at for over 15 years.
And their liquor store is like any warehouse liquor store. That's why it's less expensive.

Not that I request any of the aggressive Superstore-hate rhetoric directed at me, but I think it only fair to mention that I think you may have the two of us jumbled into a single poster.
Dislike Superstore to all your hearts' content, but as I mentioned before I have never experienced some of the complaints lobbied in this thread against the store. Of course we are all different people with different preferences and different personal experiences. For me, good prices, the ability to check myself out, having stock available when I want it, and having variety are all qualities that I have experienced at Superstore and prefer to have at a grocery outlet.

Superstore hate? This has got to be the vocal minority...
They must be doing something right if they're the most successful grocery chain in Canada despite all the flaws pointed out here

A not insignificant percent of the population will put up with anything to save a dollar or two. IMNSHO, the people who dislike Superstore have higher standards.
