My additions:
LW John Gaudreau - 70 PLY (4.5 red stars)
C Mark Jankowski - 63 PLY (4 red stars)

I heard that the Be A Pro is still broken in that you can lead your team in points and play awesome and your coach can still consider you lazy. That happened to me in NHL11 and really put me off the game, was leading the League in points and the team was upset with me because I was apparently lazy and dropped me to the 4th line.

Can't find them. They aren't in the NHL and they aren't on their European team.

As more of a skill/passing kind of guy, they totally ruined the deking. One touch dekes are new and cool, but they ruined the regular dekes. Most of them are the same, which isn't too appealing. The fighting engine is cool, but nothing groundbreaking and it doesn't look like I'll be using the fight button too much.

All the little details are great as well, but it seems like they took the skating speed DOWN another notch. I know they try to make things realistic and stuff, but acceleration in general is just way too slow. It's also impossible to make a quick cut into the middle.

I've been buying every year since I can remember.. but I'm not sure if this one justifies $60 ... I might just wait for their attempt at a next gen game. Sorry EA, good, but not good enough.

Played for several hours yesterday:

Be A GM Mode is considerably better. More informative trade screens, more nuanced trade options (like retaining salary), much better line editing screens, faster menus, it all seemed MUCH better than the previous year.

Game speed seems slower, which I like, and it seems harder to make fantastical passes. Gotta make quick plays to close support. Had to change team strategy to conservative breakout to adjust to some teams.

Hitting is much better and more important now that the poke has been muted. Stick lift is also a decent addition now that it's not a presumed automatic penalty every time you use it.

I'm pretty impressed by this game so far.

Thing I've noticed about GM mode is that you can't trade any random player to any team you want.

I simply could not find a way to move Kipper and his salary.

Good to hear about these adjustments. I play a lot of EASHL and this should help.

Also, size matters.

If you're a big guy and you go for a poke check and miss, but still make physical contact with the opposiion player, you have a greater likelyhood of knocking them over/off the puck.

I like that. Gives bigger players their natural advantage.

This is a better game, but I'm going to feel like a sucker paying for it because it's the game 13 should have been after one patch.

Still, I'll pay my yearly upgrade tax because it's a fun game to play with other people. Just wish EA could surpass expectations for once.

A patch can't change in game things like the collision engine and skating engine. They are not going to radically change the game every year, you don't see McDonald's having to change the cheese burger every year or apple changing the iPhone drastically every year.

You have to build on an existing platform and improve it so far I feel the game plays much better then 13 and I love that those little sniper punks don't bounce off hits. That's alone is worth $60

Just finished my first GM season.

Backlund finished the season as an 83 (up 3), Baertschi 80 (up 2?). Monahan scored 40 points and won the Calder (for whatever reason, Baertschi wasn't eligible), and then, come the draft, his potential drops from 4.5 yellow stars to 4 red stars.

I don't understand. Makes me not want to play this file anymore.

I agree there are a number of small changes that add up to a much better game. But can you really call any of them radical?

Thankfully Xbox refunded my season ticket for the debacle that is NHL14 early release.

I've been playing this game all weekend. Here are my thoughts:

-The menu loading is 10x better. Thank you EA for taking over 7 years to fix it!

-I love the hitting. Maybe it's just me, but I love the amount of injuries when you just nail someone. Momentum plays a huge factor and when you crunch someone into the boards you really feel it. Last night I cross checked someone from behind face first into the cross bar and he laid their injured. The animation looked awesome. No more Chara bouncing off St Louis' back.

-Be A Pro mode is pretty much the same as last year, except for some new quirks (interviews, etc). The AI still makes ######ed decisions. For example, I was drafted by the Red Wings and had 18 points in 6 pre-season games. Then I get sent down to the minors? Why?

-I like the skating more so then last years. Feels more fluid and accurate.

-The fighting is way better. I hated that first person view they always had. However, I hate the fact that if you have penalties on and nail someone, you always have to fight. There is no way to avoid it. And the opposing player who rushes you never gets an instigator ever. I've pretty much had to turn penalties off in order to avoid this. And for some odd reason, the penalty slider only has 3 settings...

Haven't played the MP portion yet, and that's where the real test will come. Hopefully they will have fixed all of the pausing and improved the flow of the game. So far I'm pretty happy with it, and I'm the biggest critic you'll find of this series.

i am thoroughly enjoying the game thus far... just playing a season with a lineup i foresee the flames icing, and it feels great. i also love the fact that i'm playing on all-star/hardcore, and my record so far is 2-3-3. i want to feel an obvious difference when i play wiht a good roster vs a mediocre one. Of course i have no idea if this is the case, as i refuse to play as any other team than the flames .

Can't wait to start be a gm after getting the official release tomorrow.

I'd love to discuss how the attributes to be set when creating jankowski/gaudreau/gillis before i start my be a gm with anyone who knows their playing style well.

Also should mention that I found NHL94 mode to be a waste of time. All it is was the controls switched over to 2 button mode (which sucks now, control stick is way better), some different sound effects and blue ice.
