Probably easier to tell you who does not have some sort of clasue. Of the forwards with trade value:
Stempniak, Backlund and Hudler
Of the D:
Brodie and Butler.
Pretty sad if you ask me.

And there is the Achilles tendon of this organization right there. 6 players including Kipper with NTC or NMC. Thats as ridiculous as it gets. The players hold all the cards which should never happen.

Really, there's got to be more?
Forwards: assuming you are just taking the top 9 forwards, 7/9 have NTC/NMC?
On D... I think Sarich and Babchuk have NTC's (before anyone blames Darryl, those 2 were recently resigned by Feaster; but I only think Sarich has one, I'm pretty sure Babchuk was given one)... so 6/8 ?

I only mentioned the players that i thought had good trade value. If you want the rest:
Cervenka, Comeau, Jackman, McGrattan, Begin
Derek Smith on D
None of our goalies have a clause, so i guess thats something.

And all this from the mouth of the guy that said "I don't believe in NMC's"

If, a big if, a trade happens it will involve one more of the following:
Stempniak, Backlund, Stajan and our 1st or any of our 4th liners. Highly doubtfull we give up our scorers since scoring is the only thing that does not need fixing.

Babchuk's expires during this season IIRC. Might have expired already to be honest.

After two years of not being good enough to crack a non-playoff squad's defense, his Value is next to nothing.
I will gladly eat my words on that one, but I think it's safe to assume the Flames have offered him up in trades before with no takers.

Wait so Sarich got yet another NMC? I knew he had one on the 5 year deal but didn't think they would give him one again on the new 2 year deal.

Sarich has no trade until Jan. 1 so he can basically be dealt as a rental next year if they wanted/somebody wanted him.

I am starting to think that Brodie's development is making Giordano more expendable.
I kind of wish that Hartley would put Giordano and Sarich back together. They always showed good chemistry in the past.

Who on the Flames would garner a top 10 pick though? Iginla and Kipper would go to a contender, so probably a 25-30 pick. Which bottom 10 team would we get a pick from and for who? Honest question.

A combination of a late round 1st and a player to move into the top 10?
Any number of potential scenarios wherein calgary are the net recipient of draft picks vs giving them up?

According to this THN column, the draft is deep with talent in the top 10, but after that, it loses its luster. If true, it could make it very difficult to convince teams to trade down this year. By the same token though, if we do get a top 10 pick, it could be more valuable in a trade than in a lot of years.
Quote:
“The 2013 draft is not as strong or as deep as we first thought,” said one scout, echoing the thoughts of many others. “It’s a deep top 10 and an OK first round, but I don’t see a lot of depth. Is it deeper than 2012? I’m not so sure.”
The 2012 draft was considered the weakest in several years. That’s perhaps why 2013 was so anticipated...
|
Quote:
“The 2013 draft won’t come close to 2003,” another scout said. “Let’s make that clear right now. Take away the first eight or 10 picks and you’re looking at guys who can contribute on the third and fourth lines, not the first line.”
|
Question: Do any contending teams have more than one 1st rounder this year?
