Someone should send him a video of himself huffing and puffing after every shift. He was good in one of three zones; your typical KHL player. The fact he asked for a trade in a shortened season is just ridiculous. Good riddance best player outside of the NHL.

First game I saw him play, he yelled to come off the first shift he was on the ice for. The look on the bench was priceless - everyone was like "already?". Good riddance Roman.

Yes, that is a horrible crime - he should have stayed out there until he coughed up the puck

Point remains you have to be in NHL shape to be an NHL player.

That is absolutely true.

And a great way to not be in NHL shape is to have a blood infection and miss all of training camp.

Didn't they'd give him some conditioning time? Also a few maintenance days..

Yes, but like with anyone who misses camp or comes back after an injury, it isn't the same thing

I think most people would agree that Cervenka's ailment had a big impact on his first (only) NHL season, whether the Flames gave him time to condition or not is pretty irrelevant. Theres no way it could have replaced what could have been done during the summer and training camp.

My inclination is that the Flames were not opposed to giving him another shot after a full off season, but that Cervenka wasn't happy either way and wanted to head home. Which is fine, he'll make more $$ in the KHL than he ever could in the NHL.

I just wish we could of seen him after a full training camp, a full preseason and a full 82 game schedule.

With his injury and the lockout, it's safe to say he wasn't meant to be

The thing is he put up nearly 0.5 PPG - in his first NHL season.
That's pretty good actually.
But he was a nightmare in all other aspects, and a complete liability on the ice when he wasn't in the offensive zone.
In today's NHL there isn't room for guys like that unless they are elite offensively - and he wasn't.
