I think Jokinen is going to cash in for at least 5 million per season. It should be interesting to see what happens with him.

If the flames can get a center that is better than him then i would kiss him goodbye.

He was 3/12 last year and 2/7 the previous year. Doesn't seem like a specialist.

No, I was just pointing out that saying the contract length is fine because Hudler is 28 is too simple of a way to judge a contract.

it very well could have been. he did come back after 1 year to fulfill a contract he never liked.

well yeah, but what are the chances of that happening? Wellwood is pretty much the best UFA center left after Olli and top 6 centers are rarely traded

He originally signed a two-year deal in Russia, but returned to the Wings after only one season, so it wouldn't be surprising if he regretted the decision.
Maybe he can now give Ramo some secret advice on getting out of a KHL contract.

Looks like a few players have some good things to say about Calgary:
Detroit Free Press @freepwings Jiri Hudler said he spoke to good friend & ex-Flame Todd Bertuzzi about joining Calgary Flames.

While that's fair assessment, I'm just glad we've got a guy that has some hands and isn't afraid to go in and deke. The kid looks like he has some moves at least.

Haha. That was golden. Wonder why if the Wings were so high on him that they didn't re-sign him?
Wanted a more prominent role?

That's half the forward group right there, and none of those guys are shrinking violets, and can play a physical brand when called upon.
Hudler, Tanguay, Cammalleri, Baertschi, Cervenka and Stempniak.
That's likely the other half, and that group has skill to burn IMO.
Sounds like a GOOD mix to me.
|
Yeah the big half are mostly bottom 6 forwards (Bouma, Jones, Jackman, Comeau)
No size in our top 6 except Iginla, maybe Glencross.
We're shrimps up front. Like the Canadiens of recent memory.
Not totally sold on Feaster's direction so far but hopefully it works out. Kind of surprised so many are thrilled about adding a 5'9 forward when we already have Cammalleri and Byron. I think we may have overpaid for Wideman and may have overpaid for Hudler. Hopefully they pan out better than I think they will.

“I can’t say I’m glad I (went to Russia), but there are no regrets,” Hudler said. “It’s all behind me. I cannot say anything bad about it. It was a good experience. It was good hockey. A life experience too, but I’m glad I’m back in Hockeytown.”

Even if we could, do you really want to ice a nearly identical team as last year since it worked so well? Time for some change imo.

So where are these 6'4 skilled forwards on the market? Should Feaster not do his job of improving the team because he wants size and he can't find those players?

Everyone looks good on YouTube. Consider Hagman, for instance. But he did have better shootout stats before he went to Russia. It's always a small sample size, so he could do well in shootouts next season, it's just that he doesn't really look any better than what Calgary had previously.

Would you really prefer a 33 1/2 year-old Olli for 4 years at $4 million per?

Kind of hoping with all the smaller winger we go out and acquire a center with come size. I know this sounds really strange but a guy like antropov comes to mind. Not saying I would like him on the Flames but a center in that size range would be beneficial. Thats why Jordan Staal was so coveted.

Think this is pretty clever, should make the transition for Roman easier, possibly a nice touch for our other Roman.
I didn't think it possible at all... but I feel like this might actually give us a shot with Jagr, that as a full Czech line would get me pretty psyched!
Am now interested in what we're going to do with all our extra forwards...?

I can't understand how anyone would complain about this signing. Unless they are a Canucks, Oiler fan in disguise and there is none of those around here.
Hudler to the Flames is nothing short of brilliant by Feaster.
