They talk about having addressed that with new momentum etc, but I also hope they seriously address it in terms of the WAY people play.
If I blow someone up mid-deke, that should be it for them.
The confines of the game are such that if you take liberties while on the ice, whether that is passing the puck up the middle in your own end, looking down at the puck in the neutral zone, or trying to make a move at the opposition blueline, you pay the consequences.
If some tabernac shouting frenchy wants to pull a loose puck deke as he's exiting his own zone, he should be doing it fully aware that if I catch him with my massive bodychecking and strength, that's it for him. As in, enjoy watching the game from the bench/a quiet room.
Instead, even though I make full contact with the player, he bounces up, retains possession and goes the other way for a 2-1, instead of taking a 3-1 trip to the hospital like if he'd tried that in a real league.
To me, it's pretty easy to make being a defender easier, and more fun. Defenders just need the same invincibility that forwards have.
TL;DR: If they made the physical aspect of the game matter in the slightest, things would be more fun.
To add to this, I feel as though there's no incentive to play physical. Players don't wear down over time and it just puts you out of position. Not to mention the larger players still have a hard time knocking over smaller players. No sense of balance in the skaters and no sense of strength. I should be able to rough them up in the corners with Chara and not have to catch them while going at full speed to knock them over.

I would have no problem getting beat by a skill player when I go for a big hit.
If you play like Hemsky, great, but there are more than just dangles when you play like that.
Go ahead and do a deke on the half-boards coming out of your own zone, but be prepared to rage quit after you're knocked out of the game and taken off on a stretcher because I had your stupid move scouted after the first two times you did it.
I'm one of those guys who turns his back, it's a lot more about timing though. Now that they have it so you can do it all the time if you want, and made it a little bit easier to do that it might be a easier to defend it. Also, they might make it so that when a players back is turned they aren't practically invincible. That is what I'm hoping for anyways.
you only do it when crossing the blue line for a second or two. pretty sure he's referring to the people either trying to go end to end or out of the corners

Meh, in my be a gm mode, I'm only in December but ofc I've totally revamped the team... Got Ennis as my main D man because he's big, and he can hit, and he's a tiny cap hit. My first line is Kovalchuk, Toews, Iginla
Second is Cammy Stamkos and a mix up of Ruutu and Moss depending on whos working
This is my latest GM
My old one was too easy.. I had Kovulchuk Crosby Iggy on first and Malkin, Stamkos Parise on 2nd and Chara and phaneuf on 1st d... Kipper and Fleury in net... too easy.
My NHL 10 GM.. LOL, Ovechkin, Crosby, Iggy, Kovalchuk, Toews, Parise, plus Stamkos, Nash, and other stuff... Needless to say I went without cap.
They've revamped the trade system....
I've played too much of NHL12.
but am I the only one that feels that sometimes when you're offside, it's not called? I mean, I cant complain about it, but it's just odd.

I usually buy the newest game every 3 years or so, simply because the changes haven't been enough for me to shell out 70 bucks every September. I did buy NHL 12, so I guess I'll have to pass on NHL 13, unless something big is added to the game.
I do like some of the custom covers though. Well done, guys.
I think I have to wait and see some of the reviews (CP reviews, not "line up and give EA a BJ" review sites like IGN). I'm pretty jaded on this product given all that we've promised in the past (AI changes) and significantly under delivered on.
I've been a fan of the series for a long time, I usually don't have much problem with the game play apart from cheesers online. The only big beef I have with NHL 12 is the servers. Is it just me (and my club) or is it nearly impossible to start a game sometimes?
All we get is "Connection to opponent has been lost" or we'll get booted halfway through a game because of server issues and we get a loss as a result. It's really irritating spending 20 minutes in the dressing room trying to find games. I'm on XBL btw

EA actually rated it lower than the average (by only 1%, but lower nonetheless) on metacritic after 33 reviews (IGN 85%, MC 86%). Meanwhile the user score is 11% lower at a 75, but that's largely being thrown off by a 0 that somebody gave it. Toss out the outlier and user reviews are quite similar.
I think you already know you won't like the game. If you are of the mind that the current style sucks I feel pretty confident you'll hate the upcoming one too.

This game is the most different an NHL game has been since 07.
Though that's what EA says.. but I think I'll agree with them based on what I've seen.

Hockey Ninja; you're using the template well, but I'd consider finding higher res player pictures. The ones you've got look way too soft and grainy. I suggest using the template as a guide and trying to emulate the look from scratch using brushes and what not. Don't get too reliant on templates otherwise you'll never learn for yourself. Otherwise, keep it up.

Revamping the gameplay entirely isn't a big enough deal for you?
I'm looking forward to playing the new one. Was on EASHL yesterday and good God are some of the mechanics grating. I feel like if they don't "dumb down" these changes they're talking about the actual difference in player skill will have a huge impact. A good player with a 70ovr forward will be far more dangerous than an average player with Malkin simply because of the need to read the play ahead of time and adjust rather than just reacting because everyone moves at the same speed and it's impossible to get caught flat footed.

Along with the addition of GM Connected, the new online multiplayer fantasy league, EA SPORTS NHL 13 will feature a new AI that will drive how the computer handles trades, drafts and more in modes which feature multi-season leagues such as Be a Pro, GM Connected and our Be A GM mode.
Every player in the league has a growth potential between half a star and 5 full stars. The higher the number, the higher a player’s potential overall rating. Green, yellow, and red are used to track the possibility of reaching their potential. White means they’ve stopped growing.
We’ve introduced the concept of Player Roles into NHL 13, and this allows all CPU GMs to make much more logical choices in many key areas. There are 25 different player roles in our game, ranging from ‘NHL First Forward Line’, to the previously mentioned ‘Top 4 D’ above, all the way to ‘AHL Backup Goalie’. Our new Player Role system allows CPU GMs to have a better understanding of their current roster and across the league.
Our growth model and role updates have allowed us to make some changes to how we create rookies, and how often rookies grow into the next coming of Wayne Gretzky. Scouting plays a key role for finding the next big thing, so we’ve taken some time to revamp scouting visits as well this year.
however, i hope in the next year they figure out a way to replicate teams moving contracts that are going to run out. short term 'rental' players are what drive deadline deals.
if they could implement a system to gauge how likely it was a player would resign, then they could program the teams to be willing to trade away veterans if they were on the last year and the team was a seller due to their record.
