On Friday, April 6th, the Winterhawks opened their Kal Tire WHL Western Conference semi-final in Portland hosting the Kamloops Blazers. Baertschi scored one goal, three assists and was named the games 1st Star in the ‘Hawks 5-3 win over the Blazers. The next night, Saturday, April 7th, in Portland, Baertschi scored two goals and was named the games 2nd Star in the Winterhawks’ 4-1 victory over the Blazers.
The Portland Winterhawks now have a 2-0 series lead over the Kamloops Blazers in the Kal Tire WHL Western Conference semi-final with games three and four scheduled for Tuesday, April 10 and Wednesday, April 11 at 7:00pm in Kamloops.
A 19-year-old from Langenthal, SUI, Baertschi is playing his second full season with the Portland Winterhawks after being a 7th overall selection in the 2010 CHL Import Draft. The Calgary Flames made Baertschi the 13th overall selection in last year’s 2011 NHL Draft and signed the WHL Star to an entry-level contract this past summer. He recently was a rare emergency NHL call up for the Flames in March appearing in five games and scoring three goals. This is his fourth career WHL Player of the Week Award.

Edmonton - Brandon is 1-1 midway through the second period. Ferland had an assist on the Wheat Kings goal and now has 3 goals and 3 assists in 8 games. Brossoit is in net for the Oil Kings and has 12 saves so far.

Is anyone else hoping for a Oil Kings vs Portland WHL Final? There are plenty of exciting guys in both those teams including a few flames prospects. Would be awesome!

Oil Kings win 5-1 and Brossoit gets his 7th straight win. He has a 1.71 GAA through 7 games.
Ferland had an assist on Brandon's only goal.

3-1 after two quick shorthanded goals for the Winterhawks. No points on either shorty for Baertschi or Rattie.

I'm not watching the game but it sounds like Kamloops really dropped the ball allowing 2 SHG on the same PP in their arena

Barrie up 2-1 against Ottawa in their OHL series. No thread for OHL side of the playoffs and I didn't think it'd be thread worthy. I'm following cuz the Jets top prospects in the CHL are involved. Everyone knows Scheifeile of course being the Jets 1st pick ever, but Ivan Telegin is for me a darkhorse star in the making. He, like Scheifele is better than PPG all season and he's been amazing this playoffs. He potted 2 assists tonight and Scheifele added a goal.

Kamloops score on the PP, but the Winterhawks get it back shortly after. Brad Ross with a hat trick tonight.
No points for Baertschi or Rattie on the last 3 Hawks goals. That's only happened once before in these playoffs (3 consecutive goals without Sven or Rattie getting a point).

Only 1 point in a 4 goal game? Wow looks like another bust for the Flames...
