He will likely never be big enough or strong enough to carve out a career as a two-way forward or a checker.
But the way that he has handled himself against higher-level competition this past year should give Flames fans high hopes of him reaching this potential. He was a star player at BC in his rookie season. That alone is a pretty spectacular accomplishment. Had he dominated in another programme would not have been nearly as impressive; to be one or two of the best players for the national championship team—and the best NCAA team by a country mile—as a 5'6" rookie is huge.

So you're saying the same thing that I am, and I'm idiotic. Comparing him to Schremp is like saying that he could easily be a bust. Is he going to be Fleaury? Hopefully, but I doubt it

Gaudreau's a lock.
I don't think Sieloff or Gillies will make it this season because there are some very good defensemen and more experienced goalies, but next I can see Sieloff definitely making it.

I actually believe that Sieloff has a great shot at making the team due to these main factors.
1. His playstyle. Very few can match his physicality and defensive play
2. Past history in the U.S Program at both the international level, and USHL level
3. His familiarity and past successes paired with Jacob Trouba

I think #3 is the biggest factor you have listed. I think that paired with the style Sieloff brings could get him on the team for sure but he will still have to have a great camp.

And what Sieloff has going against him is he chose to play Canadian Junior hockey. Still I hope he makes it, it's great experience for our draftees.

Why would a CHL decision be a negative?

It is a theory held by some that USA Hockey has a bias against players who choose the CHL route.

I wasn't aware of that, Not saying it isn't true but I wonder how the American CHL teams owners feel about this theory.

the flip side is Sieloff played for the US National Development Team, so that likely works in his favour

Another good read about Gaudreau; This one from the New York Hockey Journal...
http://www.nyhockeyjournal.com/news/...reau_leaps.php
Quote:
Gaudreau — a wide-eyed, 18-year-old kid with a 12-year-old’s face and a slim 5-foot-8, 150- pound frame — was hot right out of the gate.
After earning USHL Rookie of the Year honors for Dubuque with 36 goals and 72 points during the 2010-11 season, the flashy winger helped the Eagles to the Ice Breaker championship over North Dakota in just his second collegiate game, thanks to a spectacular four-point performance that earned him Hockey East Rookie of the Week honors.
That was the first of 10 times he’d win that award, not to be outdone by three conference Rookie of the Month distinctions.

I think this is the real kicker.
Americans will usually spurn the US National Development team in order to go to the CHL, it is that case that the American committee may hold the grudge against the player.
In this case Sieloff played out his full eligibility for the USNDT and then choose to go to the CHL as opposed to College. I doubt they will have much of an issue with that since he payed his dues on the USNDT.

Sieloff was on the gold-medal winning US Under-18 team. They tend to keep those teams together as much as they can.

And he was fantastic in that tournament.
I watched the US team several times to get a view of Trouba and Jones, but over and over again, I kept noticing, and being impressed by, Sieloff.
Every time someone attempted to enter the US zone down Sieloff's side, it ended very very badly for them - like watching Hemsky and Regehr over and over.
He impressed me more than Trouba did (though it was only a few games).
And I think he has a decent shot to make the team from what I saw there.

“The only reason why me and my brother committed to the same school was because we wanted to play together,” Gaudreau stated. “That’s gonna be a really big decision as to what I’ll do with my career if I ever get a chance to play with the Flames. I’m not sure what I’d do. I’m just gonna keep playing and listen to my parents and my family adviser.”
