Maybe you should have dropped yourself off there, as well.

Yeah it's amazing what happens when there's a jackknifed trailer on the deerfoot at 6:30 am..
It's such a silly statement. It took 10 minutes to get to where traffic backed up (generally right around country hills) from Airdrie.
In situations like this it's everyone north of McKnight that's affected not just Airdrie. So if it takes me about 10 minutes to get to Country Hills BLVD (on a day like today) where traffic is backed up, and it took someone 10 minutes or more to get out of the Country Hills area to Deerfoot then who had the longer commute? They end up at the same spot waiting in the North part of deerfoot.
It's not rocket science.
That said on a days like this its bad everywhere unless you live very close to work.
I should correct and say I don't know exactly where it backed up to this morning, but in my experience so far living here if traffic backs up it's usually between Country Hills and Airport Tr.

Westhills has a bus that goes downtown relatively efficiently...why not just take that directly? 106 and 108 i believe...at least that's what they were called back in the day when I took it.

My commute was great this morning! 15 minute walk into work, just like it was every day.
Living in the core is awesome.

I park on 15th Ave & 12th St, in the summer I walk from there but when it's below zero I just hop on the #2 which is a bit faster.
It's free parking and I have free (well, forced payment) transit because I am a student.
I just refuse to pay $12+ to park and I also hate taking the 301 bus from the Sirocco terminal because it's so unreliable and takes forever to get out of downtown.
It's a nice walk most days, I can stop by Jelly Modern Doughnuts, Starbucks, or Bumpy's on my way to the office.

There is free parking on 15th ave and 12th? Are you saying I have been paying 5 bucks now 7 to park at 11th ave and 13th like a sucker and could just walk an extra couple blocks and be free!

Uh er I mean... No, there isn't. Stay away.
It's street parking so you risk not finding a spot, and you've gotta watch the signs, but I've been doing it every day for over a year and only not found a spot two or three times.
14th and 15th avenues, between 11th and 14th street.

Don't worry I only park on days my receptionist can't drive me home. Which is rare. I would have saved a fortune last week though
I was pretty rattled when westpark jacked my lot from 5 bucks a day to 7.

This is what I mean, Airdrie people are lying to themselves if they think their commute is the same time as those from Country Hills or Harvest Hills. Also, it takes more than 10 minutes to get from Airdrie to country hills boulevard during rush hour.
Edit: I'll add, however, that both commutes suck and I hope to move closer to the core as soon as I can.

One of my co-workers is from Airdrie and when the topic comes up he gets super defensive about his choice to move out there. The best thing I've heard him say about living out there is that the schools are awesome. But the Fraser institute ranked their elementary schools as some of the worst in the entire province.

While time wise my trip in was pretty close to average I don't know about calling it just like every day... Maybe it's my choice of footwear but ever step I took was a battle to stay upright. Here's hoping the sidewalks are clear for the evening commute!

They go hand in hand. With Airdrie being a white supremists' wet dream, there are no minorities.
This explains the lack of guns. But it also explains the low rating from the Frasier Institute. You know, because of the lack of asians to bump up tests scores.

The Frasier Institutes ratings aren't really worth that much.

Lol agreed. But I have no desire to move back to the core thats for sure lol.
This is what Ive been trying to say.. Rush hour from airdrie to country hills is full on at 120 for me every morning. If/when deerfoot backs up it is at country hills. I have yet to experience any kind of traffic slow down before I hit country hills blvd. So it takes about 10 minutes to get there.
Now it may not take you 10mins to get to deerfoot depending exactly where you live but thats the rough time. I would tend to agree with you that yours is likely shorter but not by much more than 5 minutes.

Haha! I love the answers you get from people who move out to small towns because; 'they're great places to raise your kids!'
Have any of these people ever been to a small town school? They typically have lower quality teachers and the kids there are so bored theres nothing else to do but booze, drugs and having 12 people knocking up the same slut.
Airdrie isnt nearly that bad because its actually a sizeable place, but some of the smaller towns are pretty grim.

But, but, but, the small towns are the greatest place in the world to raise your kids!!!! The Big City is so dangerous!

I'll let my username speak for this:
1) Brotatoes don't let other Brotates move to the social-life destroying mecca of Airdrie
2) Brotatoes before Hotatoes... I mean Calgary > Airdrie due to many things, including:
- access to amenities
- reduced commute times
- access to the arts and culture
- better schools.
