I would think that Calderon could attract a half decent return? There are still teams in need. NY may need a PG if they lose Lin.

Knicks have said they will match any offers on Lin.
I think the Raptors will now be all in on a SF. It's going to take a lot but I think BC will do anything he can to get the Raptors someone who can play the 3.

Lowry may have the best non-rookie contract in the entire NBA. Offsets the payment for Fields. This Raptors team is going to be incredibly tough to play against. All is not lost

As I understand the protection, it's something like this:
Year 1: protected outside of 4-14. (If it falls in 4-14 range, Houston gets it.)
Year 2: protected outside of 3-14. (If it falls in 3-14 range, Houston gets it.)
Year 3: protected outside of 3-14. (If it falls in 3-14 range, Houston gets it.)
Year 4: protected outside of 2-14. (If it falls in 2-14 range, Houston gets it.)
Year 5: protected outside of 2-14. (If it falls in 2-14 range, Houston gets it.)
Year 6: houston gets pick.

Wow, thats an awful structure for the Raptors. I mean a couple season ending injuries and they could theoretically give up the #2 overall pick. Again I like Kyle Lowry but thats a risky move.

There's risk for both sides, as is usually the case with trading protected lottery picks. From Houston's perspective, there's risk that the Raptors just miss the playoffs next year, and Houston loses an excellent player for the 14th pick in a weak draft. Right now the odds are much more in the Raptors' favour to win this trade... Houston needs a very specific set of circumstances to happen for this to turn into a really high pick.

It's obviously a gamble, although not as stupid as New Jersey trading a top-3 protected pick to Portland for Gerald Wallace. What year does this start? If its next year the Raps should gun for that 14th spot!

Yup, starts with next year's draft.
I've also heard rumours (can't confirm, it seems like nobody knows the exact details on this) that in the sixth year, if the pick didn't get transferred to Houston, Toronto retains it. In other words, if Toronto makes the playoffs the next five years, they don't need to give up anything else to Houston.

LOL just hours later reading that the Raptors are looking at picking up Iguodala. Just a rumour(no confirmed sources) but it does make sense. Casey would be licking his chops if they added another vet who can play good defense.
Rumour was DD, Davis and Calderon for Iguodala and Vucevic.

That would be awesome. I'd personally rather keep Bargs over DD, as much as some may disagree. The Raps have a damn good starting 5 if they could somehow get Iggy. That would be a Casey team to a T and the Knicks worst nightmare.

Didnt see this posted...it is bleacher report though..
The Raptors have made offers to Russian League Defensive Player of the Year Andrei Kirilenko as well as sharp-shooting Turkish forward Ersan Ilyasova.
Both players would provide Toronto with something it needs. Either a stopper at the small forward position (Kirilenko) or a smooth shooter forward (Ilyasova) is what the Raptors are targeting

Good for colangelo on this. These moves makes sense and show a strong sense of team identity.
Nash had to be made the offer, but plan b was well thought out.

This seems so....backwards, doesn't it? Usually when a player is traded for a conditional pick, the better the player who gets traded performs on his new team, the higher the pick becomes for the team who traded him. Here it's kind of the opposite: If Lowry is awesome and Raps keep making the playoffs, Houston gets nothing. So in a way, Colangelo is a genius if this works.

Lowry deal. I really can't complain. I thought they'd have to give up a decent player for him, but with the team they currently have, they'll probably be picking 8th anyway and next year if the rumored deals go though, 12th-14th. It's an astute move by Colangelo. As well, I know Houston made an offer for Lin, but if NY does match, who's going to be their PG?
It's a shame Calderon is going to be dealt, because he has been a great professional during his time here, and he has embraced the city. He's one of those players that has always been underrated, so whatever team gets him will have a guy who'll play hard and add in those assists. I'm sure the fan's will give him a great welcome when he does return with the opposing team.
As for the other rumored deal for Iguodala, while he's not exactly the showstopper he was before, he's a solid player to have, and has really matured as a very good defensive player. DeRozan, Davis and Calderon, I really don't have a problem with that. I'd hope the Raps actually get a 1st rounder out of that because that is two solid potential's given up, and a proven Calderon, but I don't think I'd complain if there weren't any picks involved.
As for AK-47, I do believe he had major back issues and/or concussion problems which really hurt him, so you really can't expect much from him, but for depth purposes, to have him teaching Jonas or coming off the bench for him would be great. Two guys pretty much cut from the same cloth. Couldn't put that much expectations on the guy considering his injury history, but again, would be a huge lift off the bench.
Overall, if Colangelo were to do all 3, I think it would do the franchise wonders. I'm glad they didn't chase Lin, because that's super risky, but these moves are a step in the right direction. Let's see how this plays out and hope Dallas doesn't step in and f-them up again.

Is it impossible that Toronto and Houston have a side arrangement .. that if Houston can't find a PG by a certain date then they get Calderon for some pre-set deal (even an adjustment on the pick being discussed).
Amen on Calderon. Plus I would hang on to him as long as possible/reasonable. He is more valuable than just a knee-jerk amnesty.
p.s. I was looking for a Raptors board where you didn't have to try and speak all gangster like ... good ol' CP.

AK-47 was the defensive player of the year last year over there and I sure wouldn't be unhappy if they picked him up. Man he would shine in a Casey system. The team improved defensively with a bunch of stiffs in the lineup. You start adding players with a high motor like Lowry, AK-47 and Val and they will be a team other teams hate to play.

I'm hoping this just means that we can sign him for cheaper then his QO was going to be. I'd rather see us move Calderon and keep Bayless as the backup to Lowry.

Bayless is the definition of backup point guard. Can play a little, not a great passer, decent shooter. I think the Raps can find a comparable player for cheaper if they want.

I think Bayless is going to be much better then just a backup point guard. He has a similar game to Lowry, and I would rather have him coming off of our bench then Calderon next season.
