might be old news, but
Bill Arnold was Player of the Month, and John Gaudreau was Rookie of the Month for October

Gaudreau was also Rookie of the Week, last week

Reinhart's game is more then points. He is a strong 2-way player. First star in tonights game.

You're probably right about the two-way player description- from what I've heard. It's nice to see his name on the scoresheet, though.

When Reinhart is at his best, Kootenay is winning. Him putting up points or not seems a lot more situational given his playing style.

Can anyone else recall a time in recent history where we've had so many prospects producing this well?
It seems like we have 8-9 guys who are contributing to their teams every night. Nice to see.

Reason: edited - Elson had one assist, not two.

For those of you who want to watch Bill Arnold and John Gaudreau play on TV you can do that tomorrow afternoon at 2:00 PM MT as they take on their bitter rivals Boston University. The network, CBS Sports Network however is only carried by two networks in Canada, Rogers (no clue what channel it is on), and Bell (channel 413).
Speaking of College Hockey John Ramage had an assist as Wisconsin lost 4-1 to Minnesota tonight.
Justin Dowling continues his strong play down in Utah as he picked up a PP assist in a 3-1 loss to Colorado tonight.

Yeah, pretty crazy, and not only that but they are contributing every night to winning teams.....
Brandon Wheat Kings - 14-6-2 (1st in East)
Red Deer Rebels - 14-4-1 (2nd in Central)
Kootenay Ice - 13-4-3 (3rd in Central)
Edmonton Oil Kings - 11-7-3 (4th in Central)
Tri-City Americans - 15-5-0 (1st in US Div)
Portland Winterhawks - 13-7-2 (2nd in US Div)
Boston College - 9-2-0 (#2 ranked in NCAA Div 1)
Plus the Heat are 10-4-1 and tied for first in the Western Conference right now with the Barons.
Better the prospects know what it takes to win I guess, right?

Surprised nobody has made a "Sven Fricken Baertschi" or a "Michael Fricken Ferland" thread. Or even a "Johnny Fracking Gaudreau" one

Leland Irving is 10-4-0 with a 2.08 GAA and .919 SV% so far this year. He leads the AHL in Wins, is 8th in GAA and 20th in SV%

Nope. Things are definitely looking up. Still tough to tell who will turn out and who won't, but the last 2-3 drafts have been very solid.

But yet you go to the Fire On Ice forum and the "cupboards are bare" and we have no hope for the future haha.
I'm very optimistic about the Flames future. At the very least Reinhart and Baertschi will become NHL players.
Also, if I recall, Feaster asked Ramage if he wanted to turn pro this year and he declined. So, I'm sure the organization is high on him as well.
Things are looking good.

This Ramage' junior year right?
So one more year left in college after this one, unless he cuts his education short?

Huh, did you watch Global Vancouver news last night. In the lead up to the Flames - Colorado game the sports guy said the Flames are old and slow with no prospects on the farm. How he could say this with a straight face when just a cursory look shows the local Heat team is doing great and the Flames (with three rookies) beat the hotshot Avalanche, I don't know.
With these reporters, I guess actually know anything about what they are talking about takes second fiddle to looking good and pandering to the locals. What is frustrating is that even Flames fans believe these hacks.

In a year with so many good players, There are a few guys who seem to have taken steps backward in their development.
John Negrin - ECHL to start the season, and its doubtful that he sits higher than 8th on the Ward's depth chart. He has no points and is +2 in 3 games.
Chris Breen - Feaster loves this guy. He's big, but he's not very good. In 12 games, he's a -8 with no points on a team that's tied for first in the west.
Carter Bancks - He was scoring at a near point a game clip last season when healthy, this year he's -1 with no points in 10 games.
Jordan Henry - Made a big splash in training camp, but since being cut has not registered a point in 14 games. He is +2 with 22 SOG. He hasn't been bad defensively, but that's a pretty big pointless streak.
Ryan Howse - still struggling to translate that WHL scoring into pro hockey. Injuries have him struggling as well. 0 points in 6 games, -2, and 2 SOG.
Mitch Wahl - A big scorer in junior, sent to the ECHL, recalled but so far has no points and is -2 in 5 games.
At the AHL level these are guys who are underachieving so far this season. Not everyone can be on the upswing at the same time, and unfortunately, the bounces haven't been there for these guys.

I just noticed something:
Sven Bartschi: 7 goals, 23 assist, 30 points (8th in WHL), +4
Mark McNeil: 7 goals, 11 assist, 18 points (48th in the WHL), -8
McNeil has also played 10 more games than Bartschi. And who where the people who said that we should had drafted McNeil instead of Bartschi?

Me. I'll admit it. I'm still of the traditional Flames mindset that we should have tough, Western Canadian, prairie boy, Don Cherry lovechild, blah blah blah, kind of prospect.
Boy, was I wrong. I love the fact that we have Baertschi. I think he'll be an awesome Flame for years to come.
