In what regards was he trying to compare the situation. Was he actually trying to compare the "acts" in question to each other, or was he trying to compare "athletes or coaches" that got caught up in a scandle of some sort and how their careers or public perception faired afterwards.
If he was trying to do the former then you are right, they aren't similar, but if he was doing the latter, then his comparison is fine.

I can now identify what it is about Butler I dislike so much. That's for another thread though.
Steinberg did a good job on that interview.

He is good when he sticks to a script. But when he speaks off the cuff he is useless (unless he is talking about hot man on man action / MMA).
He has nothing interesting to say - he is like those sports geeks in high school who never play any sports but know absolutely everything about them.

I actually dont mind Bryn.
But you pretty much described the entire FAN960 staff
Steinberg and Kerr definitly fit into the category.
Having been to events where kerr has been the MC its very clear he was the classic geek in the corner who knew everything about the sport but never played it at any sort of competitive level.
You could make a good case for Walker as well. Maybe he just has small man syndrome though. I can deal with boomer, just wish he would mix in a bit more flames debate, and a little less whining about his home life.

A lot of people in media fit that bill. That's why they're in media. I don't think it matters at all whether they've played the sport before or not -- what do you want him to say? Talk about his skate sharpening technique from when he was 13? Would you rather Barnaby or Peca? They've played the sport before, and it's like listening to two rocks being hit together.
Personally, I like Pat. He's pretty knowledgeable, isn't a complete shill like Kerr is, and I find his delivery on the radio pretty good, if not over the top great.

Hey guys
Maybe it seems a weird time to weigh in - but I do take issue with "Sitting on the sidelines" guy. - People have a right to think what they will of my ability as a broadcaster - haha..I can't control that - but I played hockey at a very decent level, and continue to - not to mention golf and baseball (for what that's worth!) Any thoughts I have on the game comes from a passion and certain level of experience. regardless - sports are my life - and I think we at the FAN all have different opinions - which are just that...opinions - not wrong or right.
I signed up for the site a while ago - because I wont pretend I don't read this board EVERY DAY...I do - and kudos to everyone being so passionate and up front on here- I enjoy it.
cheers.

I am definitely starting to feel sorry for Steinberg. I think last night 3 or 4 people called in to basically ask him to look at stats for them. WTF - go to TSN or something and get the stats instead of people listening to Pat flip through pages of team and player stats on the air after the game.
Caller: "uh, how many points did the Flames have last year at this time".
The first thing you think of is to call Overtime and ask Steinberg on the air? Have that info. ready before you call in to discuss it.

Not sure what P Lou's interest in this would be, but IMO, him and Steinberg would be awesome together. I know he does some segments every now but full time would be awesome.

By no means bragging up my hockey "skills" - just meant played all through midget and continue to play - Love it! I just understand when some people feel sports talk may be a bit cheapened when he guy talking has never tied skates. Just didn't want to get that label!

Oh don't worry Andrew. Any true FAN listener knows you play hockey... aggressively. Rhett Warrener has the scouting report on you.

I don't know what's worse, being called a geek or a high-end midget.
I'm a pretty tall midget too, so I can relate.
