Ya, true enough I guess. I just can't believe people camped for a motorcade though....I guess that's why I assumed it would be so much more? I actually feel bad for people that brought their kids down at some ungodly hour to see that.

The grounds are too busy and hot for me but I like the atmosphere the city generates and how much fun the people who do enjoy the grounds seem to have. It's a good ten days for the city, it's people and businesses - how can you hate it? Let people cut loose, wear ridiculous patterned shirts and cowboy hats for 10 days of the year. Who are they hurting?

I don't climb the Rockies but still admire them from afar.

Great post. This is my feeling with the Stampede. I know many people love to hate on it, but people need to relax. I can't think of anywhere in the North America (maybe to a small extent New Orleans & Mardi Gras) where an entire city (especially corporate offices) pretty much shuts down and fully embraces 10 days of fun.

It's such a great experience and I'm sad I'm going to miss it this year.

The absolute worst thing about the Stampede are the Young Canadians. . . Christ, they're annoying.

Hooray for Everything is well-known for maintaining a positive attitude and clean wholesome image. The band has been described as "those clean-cut young go-getters"[1] and its musical repertoire seems to consist primarily of cleaned-up covers of classic hit tunes. Also, the band works to keep its appeal as broad as possible while generating as little controversy as possible. It performed in an ad for Duff Gardens, a very popular theme park[2]; and promoted one performance as a salute to the Western Hemisphere[1].

Stampede pros:

slutty cowgirls
party atmosphere city wide
wearing jeans at work

cons:

hearing country music everywhere you go
transit/traffic is a gongshow

overall i'm a fan of the Stampede, even though i rarely visit the grounds. it's just nice to see the city much more laid back for 10 days

The tragedy is that they actually get paid, while the far superior/talented/entertaining Stampede Showband do not.

Question for the masses:

What is your experience with getting Day Reserved tickets for the Rodeo. I want to pick up 3 tickets for the rodeo on Sunday and I'd like to do Day Reserved. When I go to buy tickets online through Ticketmaster, I can see that there's literally thousands of tickets still available. Do the better, more expensive tickets become available the day of when you try to get Day Reserved tickets? Also, am I going to have to line up before noon when the tickets actually go on sale?

I've always wondered if there is anyone genuinely interested in listening to radio coverage of a rodeo.

Chuckwagon races I could understand, but broadcasting rodeo events is a bit perplexing.
