In reality the pressure she’s trying to relieve is a threat to split the UCP party. So she’s going to have to double down on currying favour with those folks to keep her job and it will only get worse. There is no placating the fringe.

Well, that "split" is the majority of the party, which really speaks to the problem. The government isn't just courting separatists to keep power and keep the peace. They are separatists.

A lot of his defenders have been saying "He didn't say he supported separating!" They're right -- when asked point-blank, he declined to state his position on the record.

People who aren't in favour of separatism eagerly come right out and say it. Its the yellow wheat belly, cowering away at the bottom demonstrating zero moral conviction. Yeah, but you guys are smart enough to see that this is what makes it so dangerous. Everyone who supports this and is embarrassed will end up all alone in the voting booth and there is no one there to make them feel any shame. That's exactly how Britain left the EU, and it's really exactly how Trump won in 2016 as well.

Alberta reconsiders cutting health coverage for some temporary foreign workers after concerns raised

In a statement to CBC News, Alberta’s Ministry of Primary and Preventative Health Services said it has heard concerns from employers and workers about what it called a “premature decision” made within the department.

The government says it has now paused the change while it reviews the policy.

A ministry spokesperson said that IEC Type 58 permit holders are once again eligible for the Alberta Health Care Insurance Plan "provided their work permit is valid for at least 12 months and they have proof of full-time employment."

“We continue to urgently seek clarity from Alberta Health and the ministry on when public information is going to be available,” she said.
Van der Merwe said the lack of public information makes it difficult for workers and businesses to plan ahead.

Absolutely -- I'm of the opinion that there is a real risk of there being more of these idiots than meets the eye. Even though I'm still somewhat comfortable in my assumption that they're ultimately a minority, there is no room to rest on that assumption. If this ever comes down to a vote (which I'm hoping it doesn't), anyone and everyone who is a for a unified Canada needs to get the hell out of their house and vote in support of staying.
