#1 priority for Oilers is to find a new home Mangiapane which will cost the Oilers
They have to move him to get to what's next and that is finding a top 9 forward - ideally a 3rd line center
one name that is a fit for the Oilers is Nic Roy but lots of other names on their list
they want physicality and ruggedness
Myers continues to be patient to see if another team surfaces
Detroit's offer is still on the table and Myers could end up there in the end
teams continue to check in on Pettersen
thinks it is a stretch that he moves before the deadline
Carolina and LA have looked at him
doesn't see a world in which retaining on Pettersen makes sense for the Canucks
as of last night price is astronomical for Thomas
#1 26 year old center doesn't come available often
not convinced price will lower by the deadline
one team executive said this is about the Blues getting a full sense of the market for Thomas and circling back in the offseason
another team executive says Thomas could move before deadlne so we shall see

The Oilers top priority being to pay to dump salary is so so so funny to me.

Hearing “astronomical” as the price for Thomas and combining that with Utah being very interested in Thomas… makes me think that means St. Louis is asking for either Iginla + 1st or Desnoyers + 1st in return.

You see it all the time if you watch them. If they are down in the last 5 mins it’s basically one line playing all that time. If I was sitting on the bench I would be upset too. You mean to tel me an exhausted McDavid and Drai are better than the second best line of forwards? It works sometimes, but a lot of the time the get scored on because everyone is just gassed

Yeah. That tracks with the rumour that they want a similar return as the Hughes trade. Vancouver got the equivalent of 4 recent 1st round picks including Buium that was/is considered one of the top 10 prospects/young NHLers in the league. Asking for Iginla or Desnoyers in a Thomas trade would be on par with Vancouver asking for Buium in the Hughes trade.

NHL trade deadline information/rumors:
1. Friedman again today mentioned that Minnesota and the Rangers have been in talks on Trocheck and the Wild have a solid offer and the Rangers are waiting to see if it can be beat. He mentioned this a few days ago but was on sports radio today to say it again.
2. Utah is expected to be a big player at the deadline and they have been linked to Robert Thomas (Friedman, CBS sports, Bay Area radio).
3. Anaheim is looking to trade for a right shooting defenseman. Myers or Ristolainen are rumors as per Eric Stephens - Ducks writer.
Sharks:
Still looking for a right shot defenseman as priority. Had dialogue with 3-4 teams. Prices are very high at the moment. Sellers market.

Call me crazy but I’d take mangipane plus whatever picks attached to him. Oilers won’t win the cup may as well benefit from the delusion

It was based on cap hit so I guess whatever but I did laugh at SN including Whitecloud as a "Bargain-Bin" target at the deadline.

Especially when the asset they are dumping was only acquired 8 months ago. Objectively, a failed attempt at getting better.

Utah has to be thinking that if they can secure that 1st WC spot, they have a path through the Pacific division to get to the WCF, and they are as good as any of the teams on that path.
If I'm them, I am pushing hard at this deadline, I'm looking to do something big.

Depends what the pick is, anything below a 2nd isn't worth it to me.

On draft day, I would take their 2nd this or next year, preferably this year. I don't imagine they would be able to flip the cap space into anything meaningful.

Sure, if they want to attach picks. Then he can be bought out after this season for a good cap hit, and then anyone can sign him for around $2M.

Weirdly, I've had a similar thought. I know the lottery is "definitely not rigged," but if there were ever any outside forces that conspire to push toward draft outcomes, then getting McKenna this year - a known flames fan and, on paper, a perfect fit for what this team needs (exciting offensive dynamo) - would make sense with the flames finally getting a new building, properly tanking, and "waiting our turn" for all these years for a top pick.
It's definitely just a hunch, but I've got my fingers crossed.

Sec had Utah kicking tires with Calgary a few days ago as a one-stop shop. Hopefully, Thomas is too expensive and they circle back to the Flames.
They have the best assets for most of the teams rumoured to be interested in the Flames' players.
