It depends, what are the difficulty and trade difficulty sliders set at in Be a GM mode?

Why on earth would Carolina even consider that in this draft? You were thinking 100% of the Flames when you made that proposal, there's no chance you put yourself in Carolina's shoes for even a second, which is a common theme when posters make up trade proposals on CP.

Maybe Carolina considers it if Flames take on Semin too. But their owners would have to be in pretty dire financial situation to consider it.

Just read a tweet from non mainstream media saying COL will not re-sign Hejda or Ryan Wilson. Is Wilson a decent low key signing? Not sure as I think he was injured a lot of the season.

For sure! Thinking about the 2018 possibilities with a pick in that Top 5...
Bennett-Jankowski-Marner
or
Gaudreau-Monahan-Barzal
or
Provorov-Brodie
Gio-x
or
Brodie-Hanifin
Gio-x
or
Brodie-Werensky
Gio-x
You are setting yourself up for a Stanley Cup with any pick in the top 5 if that's all you're paying because we still have a ton of guys who can be skilled middle 6ers.

Wilson would be our 7/8 guy. Rather keep Schlemko and Diaz then bring Wilson in.

Considering Smid is questionable to every suit up again for the Flames, I would take Wilson in addition to Schlemko and Diaz.

Too many lower depth guys when you factor Engelland in, even without Smid. I'm hoping they acquire a true #4, not a guy like Wilson. We also have guys like Wotherspoon, Nakladal, Morrison, Culkin, etc in addition to possibly Diaz and Schlemko. Really don't think we need another depth guy gumming up the works unless he's firmly at the top of the heap.

Smid is done. Just a guess, but I'm willing to bet on his career being over.
The top 6 D now has a hole without Schlemko, Diaz and Smid.
Wotherspoon is not the answer, yet... Sieloff will likely never be a mainstay.
Personally I think Schlemko came in and did an incredible job and you keep him in as #6, Diaz as your #7 and look for that blue chip Dman to share NHL/AHL duties.

Who get displaced from the top 4?
Gio? Nope
Brodie? Nope
Wideman? Nope (unless traded)
Russell? Nope (Unless traded)
You have to consider that if Wides or Russell are traded, the return includes an almost ready top 4, young dman or a bonafide top 2 guy that pushes Brodie to the 2nd pairing.

I don't want anyone gone, I want 5 legit top 4 defensemen.

You don't need 5 top 4 defenseman if you have 1 duncan keith. He plays enough minutes he practically is 2 people.

Giordano is very close to Duncan Keith's level, if that's what you're getting at, but Chicago's cap situation is quite different. We can afford another luxury top 4 Dman, they can't. I don't want to go into the playoffs leaning on 2 or 3 guys so much because someone gets hurt. If Chicago loses Keith like we lost Giordano, their season ends in Nashville. If you can afford it, 5 legit top 4 guys is ideal.

I really liked Schlemko. I think he would be a decent signing on a 1/2 year deal as a bottom pairing defender with Engelland. Pretty much him being the stop gap for Wotherspoon or Morrison to take the bottom pairing spot.
Though, would prefer Wotherspoon and Morrison to play top pairing minutes in Stockton.

With all the talk of taking contracts from the Hurricanes what are people's thoughts on Jeff Skinner? He is only 23 and has scored 30+ a couple of times. He has 4 more years at $5.5M but some highly questionable concussion history.
Ward+Skinner for Hiller, Granlund, 2nd, Raymond/Jones?

Jeff Skinner is one hit away from retirement and is basically a half a point a game player. No interest, personally.

Treliving also sounds like he's very unlikely to take on a bad contract, or a questionable contract with term for a player with questionable health or injury history.

Not a bad suggestion, but the concussion issues are scary, and his production has not been good for the past few years. Ward and Hiller are a wash, so it's essentially Skinner for Granlund, Raymond and a 2nd. I wouldn't give up Jones. Skinner is also a smallish LW, which the Flames don't need. 4 more years could impact the Flames cap situation. I think it's in the best interest of the Flames to see how Granlund progresses, and to use the 2nd during this deep draft or in a better trade. My 2 cents.
