Despite being the most popular sport in the world, soccer is still very much a niche sport in this country and the game day experience is like no other sport around. It's going to take decades or even generations to change that culture. There is definite progress being made but it will be slow. This cycle is doing wonders for that though.

Personally I was disappointed that higher up in the supporters section was not rocking all game, but it was still a good atmosphere at times. It's not like Edmonton has a good supporters scene to reference for events like this. Next game I just know to get my tickets closer to the front so I can get involved in the action more.

As for the jerseys, people paid money to watch the national team, some of whom drove or flew to the game. Hockey jerseys are just fine IMO.

If that indoor stadium / arena got built in Calgary's downtown west, we'd be hosting these November games no problem.

Yea, don't get me wrong, I had no issue with the hockey jerseys, I'm just saying it goes to show what sport most fans are used to supporting. The culture of being a hockey fan vs soccer fan is completely different.

I don't mind being in #### weather during the match. I'll just dress appropriately.

But I'm getting concerned (read: my wife is getting concerned) about the freezing rain forecast for the drive up. I might bail.

I had tons of fun on Friday so I wouldn't feel so terrible...

It also sucks for fans. Three hours outside at -10 is absolute torture. It detracts from the experience and minimizes the greatness of the event.

What a waste.
haha, hilariously wrong take.

Folks, was planning to get to Edmonton but it is no longer possible. Anyone looking for 2 tickets at cost ($46+gst), please let me know. They are: Section E, 16

Share with your soccer fans in Edmonton if you know anyone is interested.

Why I have to sell? Weather is definitely a factor as I was accompanying a senior. It becomes quite risky for him.

I know people who went and said it was one of the best experiences ever. It didn’t ruin it.

I hate to say it but claiming the above bolded is ludicrous as a Canadian. -10 is balmy!

I officially bailed. Not because of the weather at kickoff, but because of driving conditions. My wife was really worried.

Me bailing may have now opened the door to going to the Vancouver game instead so

He'd like to buy a souvenir of some sort, something to keep a long time. How much money does he need to take with him? Do they accept cash at the consessions and the fan shops?

There's rumblings the January game will be in Toronto, not Vancouver. Doesn't make sense to me at all why they would do that, outside of easier travel in for the players.

They could play it at SkyDome.

The only thing they had right was Edmonton transit shuttles. We were staying in the south end of the city and they had shuttles from Millwoods shopping mall (and 4 or 5 other spots).

Shuttle was $6 return, kids 12 and under free.

Took 45 mins to get there and then only 25 back (I think it was the same route).
Say what you want about Deerfoot but Edmonton has no decent north south route inside the city, so we were going on Elbow drive equivalent streets most of the way. And Edmonton has the most traffic lights per capita.

Anyways, saved the nightmare of parking or the jammed trains.

Again, that venue needs huge upgrades to host a WC. I wonder if the issue with not doing Vancouver is that they aren't in the running for WC games. But no question, it would be the best venue to watch a 50k attendee soccer match in this country by a long shot.

With the terrible weather, driving and otherwise, a Tuesday, and thus not a lot of fans from Calgary that would've made a Friday trip up there, I'm expecting 25-30k at most.
