Low key mental health hack.. park so you can leave easy.

Yeah. I mean, sometimes a good spot is hard to pass up, but if I don’t see anything immediately available, I drive far away from the entrance. Plus it’s easier to remember where you parked.

Worst spot I ever parked at was right by the end of the row. It took forever to get out because traffic is just continuously turning in right there.

Ya, I've only been to the Beacon hill one once before, and the parking lot is dumb. I was early, so just grabbed whatever was between the store and liquor store. Apparently that was way too close, and in extra high demand when I left. Never again. Usually I go to the NE one, enter on the back side, and park near the end for easy exit. No way am I going near that entrance area. Unfortunately Beacon Hill has no back side road(that's accessible from another main road). Beacon Hill needs a ring road.

^I believe it was originally going to have a 4 lane road behind Winners and The Brick, then maybe it would be alright.

But yeah that one is the worst since there is no back way to get in. Same problem with tsuut'ina

You can exit from Costco by taking the alley behind all of those stores and come out at a main road near and end up by a a road back to Sarcee Trail or to Symons Valley Parkway.

The SUV endemic has made a lot of passenger cars have oversized wheels that really are not great for winter. This car is an appliance...I don't need 19 inch rims with low profile tire for Alberta winters...so it's like 350 a tire for my stock rim size and 240 for the alternate size. I'll try and find the alternate.

Luckily a couple folks here might have something I can use. As Fuzz noted...wreckers likely take good tires and wheels off first, but I still think it's worth inquiring there if I can't find the size I want used elsewhere.
Yeah I wouldn't put in a ton of effort for a FB marketplace listing. I get what you mean. If it is a listing that works and is easy, cool. If not, don't waste effort and just move on.

The ones at the junk yard they pull off and sell themselves are probably OK, but I wouldn't wander around with a breaker bar and yank off some wheels which is what I assumed you meant by scabbing some $20 wheels.

I'm of the opinion that as luck has it, the best deals come when you aren't in a rush to get it. So I'd just use the old wheels with the winters and just casually keep tabs on a fantastic deal to jump on later. Best deals are probably mid winter to mid summer. Probably not now. But who knows, maybe you will get lucky sooner rather than later.

I heard a story of someone who looked at vehicle listing's stating an extra set of tires. He messaged people with the same car as him if they'd consider selling just the winter tires. He got a few responses back because I guess some people actually asked if they could buy the vehicle cheaper if without the extra set of tires.

Bucks auto also has sets of wheels in the front office area.

On Rims. You would have to go look and see if something suits your needs.

Usually the label says what vehicle it came off of.

Never understood parking close to the entrance. Park close to the cart corral so you can leave easily..

Unless you need to be reported to the cart narcs.

Seriously you just walked 1km in the store just put your cart away.

I've been putting this off for so long and I was even off last week and all I really needed to do is drop off my old extra tires/rims and buy some new ones and I really regretted my lack of motivation this morning. I still think good all seasons are fine but not my all seasons. I was going to go with winters this year for the second time ever now I will be that guy at the tire shop in a blizzard.

All seasons are definitely not fine in this. Even all weathers can be dicey in this, depending on the tread.

Calgarians were embarrassing unprepared for this snowfall. The warm weather halfway through November probably has something to do with it, but I can't recall a commute quite like today with this weather.

This struggler minivan was just spinning their tires struggling to get up a slight incline out of a parking lot this morning. They ended up have to give up, do the reverse of shame and turn around and find a different way out... I don't know how it doesn't occur to the person driving that you literally have NO STOPPING ABILITY, but no have it, you're for sure not a danger to everyone else on the road this morning.

I've never had winter tires in my life. Good all-weather tires are absolutely fine.

You say that because you have never had winter tires.

It is a sliding scale

All Seasons < All Weather < Winter

All Weather while superior to All Seasons are inferior to Winter tires

(did I use the < correctly)

All-weathers are basically long-life winters. They aren't nearly as soft as proper winter tires so you don't get quite as good ice and deep snow traction, but for the vast majority of people, all-weathers are a great choice if you don't want to get a dedicated winter set and don't need to deal with the harshest conditions. The Michelin Cross Climate series have the 3PMSF certification that (legally) allows driving through the mountains between October and April, too. They were high on my list before I opted for dedicated winters.

You're both right. He said they're "absolutely fine" which is correct; they are fine. They're not 'the best', but most people would get on with them just fine in our winters, far and away better than even the best all-season tires.

The way Winnipeg's roads go from bare pavement to a thick layer of sandy ice over the winter (usually) is a perfect example of a climate and conditions where a winter tire shows its superiority. Calgary, as I've said, our snow > melt > bare pavement > snow > melt > bare pavement > repeat cycle makes us a better candidate for all-weathers.

I just took delivery on a new Honda CRV and my appointment for winter tires isn't until next week. I was surprised at how well the all-seasons performed this morning.

I'm almost thinking of delaying given how well the car handled to see if there are any good Black Friday deals. Does Kal Tire do Black Friday? I was eyeing up some Nokians.

not all tires are created equal
a high end all weather or AT will match or outperform a low or mid winter

just don't drive with all seasons, summers, or anything bald in the winter please

Also pro tip, you can get next to new winters used for a fraction of the price...usually 1/3 or less. People sell cars over the spring/summer and have useless winters laying around and are happy to negotiate and get them the F outta the garage.
