Varsho likes hitting ninth inning home runs.

Can't wait to see the ump card after this game. It was clear as day to me, but the ump card will elimate my bias and show how it went.

Woohoo, nice win. We're not so bad lately. It's unfortunate that the AL east is so competitive that we may have already cratered our season.
But still, hopefully we can make some great strides and go at again next year.

Varsho has gone 1/4 in six straight games. I’ll take that along with his D and base running. He just needs to get his average up to like 240 or so. Also funny enough he passed Vlad on home runs last night.

Vlad has only 0.7 fWAR so far
Whit has 0.9 fWAR
Supposed to be a franchise player, can't play a premium position and certainly seems to struggle offensively his fair share too.

This is the perfect time to sign Vlad. He may not be franchise player material but I'd go 8 years on him @$35M. He's clearly at his low point.

Jays 6-4 in their last 10. Tied with the Rays for the best record in the division over that time. It seems the juggernaut of the AL East has slowed a bit. If the Jays can continue to claw back games against non division opponents we can put that awful May behind us. Just a shame they went 2-13 against their rivals in that stretch. Even a 6-9 record has them right there with Baltimore.
I really hope Vladdy can get back on track soon. He may not be a 1.000 OPS player but he's certainly better than a sub .800 guy.

How many years of the AL east being far more of a nightmare to get out of than any other division are we going to live through I wonder

Why would he sign at his low point?

Yankees and Red Sox will be two of the richest teams in perpetuity, so we'll always be competing with them. Tampa has figured out the model of drafting and developing within and not spending a lot of money, so they'll be able to sustain a competitive team for a long time. Baltimore has just endured a full-on rebuild and have come out the other end with lots of top young players.
So, a while.

While I definitely think the Rays are for real, the Orioles seem like a team poised for a regression.
10th in team OPS
11th in Home Runs
12th in OBP
15th in team ERA
Yet they're 3rd in overall league standings. Weird things happen all the time in baseball and sometimes teams just play above their underlying stats. For instance Ryan ####ing O Hearn hitting a 3 run home run off your closer to tie the game when he is justifiably not a good hitter.

100%. They remind me so much of the Mariners from 2 years ago. A team punching way above their weight class on the back of finding ways to win games in the most improbable fashion. Hopefully they finish like the Mariners and be on the outside looking in. I can't stand Brandon Hyde and will always remember him chirping the Jays when the Orioles were a 50 game winner. The stink of Davis, Jones, and Showalter may be gone. But they're still dinks.
