Really really good episode to end the season, though with the writers strike it's going to be a good long time until we see this show again. We'll just have to satisfy ourselves with Discovery for our Star Trek fix.
I think that they're trying to while not make the Gorn sympathetic in anyway, they are people eating, impregnating machines. But its in their nature. But by pointing out that the solar activity might have made them go into a feeding frenzy, you can't say that they are some kind of detestable race.
I think they tried to be sneaky with that when Spock stabbed the Gorn in the face and for me, it wasn't a satisfying suffering, writhing death.
At the same time, Just coldly blasting a child seemed a bit war crimey.
I liked the addition of Scotty. My feeling is that Carol Kane will be a victim of the Gorn.
As usual this show just looks beautiful, and the Cast works together really well. Even in space it seems lively unlike Discovery which is all dark and cold.
We've seen a few interpretations of the Gorn, We saw the slow karate chopping slow moving Gorn of the James T Kirk era. We saw the faster more dinosaur looking Gorn in Enerprise. And now the borrowing heavily from alien including laying eggs in people Gorn of this show. I wonder if they will try to bridge the gap with a slave species of slow gorns rising up (I kid I kid, just don't do the Klingon Virus thing).

I think they took the central idea of the Gorn in Enterprise—not just strong and malevolent, but fast and somewhat devious—and turned it up to 11 for Strange New Worlds by incorporating the Alien™-esque reproductive cycle and rapacious behaviour of the hatchlings. What they made a bit of a misstep doing was cranking down the Gorn's intelligence and resourcefulness. In the appearance in Enterprise it was quite careful to sabotage the ship and stay hidden.
I also seem to recall an establishing shot in Enterprise that implies the Gorn survived outside the ship's hull (briefly)...? Glad that got put to bed with Spock smashing open the Gorn's space suit's faceplate.

It says a lot that the Gorn was basically a foreman for the Tholians. Yeah, I remember him taking part of the warp engines, and then trying to negotiate with the Terrans.
I actually really loved the In the Mirror Darkly two part episode, Scott was amazing as a brutal Archer, and it had a completely satisfying ending.
You compare it to Discovery's interpretation of the Mirror Universe and It was the best of Enterprise.
I'd love a whole series on the Mirror Universe.

Honestly...I didnt think they could top last season, but this entire season was amazing!
They started off strong, then followed that up by knocking it out of the PARK with a classic Trek Courtroom episode and then just kept going and going.
The Lower Decks cross-over was next level and managing an episodic series while still keeping the over-arching theme of the conflict with the Gorn has worked brilliantly.
I dont even know how much more I can say about it. That was an amazing season of Star Trek and I think its going to stand the test of time and be revered with some of the classic seasons and episodes of the Franchise.

I agree with all of this. Best Trek series I've seen in a long time, right up there with the original movies and the best episodes of TNG and DS9, if not better. Just a top notch show all around.

I cant say enough good things about it. The Musical episode was not my jam, but it was still good.
And most of the other episodes were pure Gold.
This is the best Trek we've gotten since TNG and DS9, to have this and Lower Decks at the same time and Discovery being ended?
Take STD's budget...hand it to these guys and make ~20 episode seasons.
They must have tied Kurtzman up and stuffed him in a broom closet or something, because calling this season of Strange New Worlds 'brilliant' is an understatement.

I can smell it on the dialogue. The difference between the writing for Boimler and Mariner and the rest of the crew made it even more noticeable for me. It's still the only issue I have with SNW.
Stupid Red Letter Media for pointing it out and now I can't not notice it.

I watch RLM too, and they never bothered to give SNW a chance which is a rare misstep from my point of view. I don't think it's anywhere near as bad as Discovery or Picard.
Care to give any examples from the finale, that are not Ortegas? I'm excluding her because she's specifically written to sound that way, but if she's the main source of it for you, then that's going to be tough to get around.

I've agreed with a few of RLM's takes, but most of the time I find that those guys nit-pick to the point where they clearly don't get any joy out of anything. And I find that sad.
SNW is easily one of the most enjoyable TV watching experiences I've had in a while in terms of Trek or anything sci-fi. Just an absolutely wonderful show in every aspect IMO.

Ditto, but thats part and parcel of Star Trek fandom.
Frankly, I'm pretty glad they've ignored SNW and I'm pretty sure they did it because it doesnt leave them a lot of room for nit-picking.
Picard and Disco serve up Trekkie Loathing on a silver platter....those were low-hanging fruit, you want to bitch and moan about SNW or Lower Decks? Thats going to be a lot tougher.
Lower Decks at least tells you what its going to be and then delivers on that promise, tough to argue too much with that while SNW seems to be just effortlessly killing it.
