A "neat" story given the seriousness of the event from the UCLA shooting today was the engineering students coming up with innovative ideas to prevent their classroom doors, which open outwards, from opening and tweeting the setups and photos on social media.

I don't know if I'd consider a drive by shooting, which is most likely gang related and targeted to be in the same category as a mass shooting at a school or workplace.

It's still gun violence, out of control, and tragic, just to call them mass shootings doesn't seem like the right category.

Nothing from us...21st + 4th...no sirens or anything. Probably kids + firecrackers or the aforementioned latte machine firing up at Vintage.

There is no formal definition of 'mass shooting'. But what the people behind this site does is take the FBI's definition of 'mass killing' - four or more fatalities in one incident - and define mass shooting as four or more victims. IMO, it is a reasonable and objective way to measure it.

Not to take away from the fact this happened in a public place, but the UCLA incident hardly qualifies as a mass shooting. Unfortunately this sort of thing happens all to frequently (on both sides of the border), and by this I mean murder-suicide.

I didn't hear of the one on May 15, 4 males and 1 female shot an killed and the house burnt down to try and cover it up.

At least 9 dead apparently with 24 more injured, but it's early and those numbers may not be accurate.

Now reports are it may have been terrorist activity.

A U.S. intelligence source told CBS news senior investigative producer Pat Milton that Islamic terrorism is being investigated as a possible motive in the shooting due to several indicators including the style of the attack, which had similarities to the attacks in Paris in November 2015 and Brussels in March. The gunman put up a protracted gun battle with police and was heavily armed, the source said.
