The healthcare system is broken in EVERY province. Wait times, poor access and lack of family doctors are problems is every province.

OK, but worse here. That doesn't make it a valid excuse.
Government source
You will notice the only two things we are better than average in are hip and knee surgery times, which should be no surprise because we've privatize and prioritized those easy "wins". You can even see the effect of that decision in the longer wait(407 days!) for knee surgeries in the 90th percentile, which would represent the hard cases AHS has to do.
I know even Shaye Ganam, who is one of the more reasonable 770 hosts, repeats the mantra it's the same everywhere, but he's misinformed on this. It's just not true. It's worse here.
This also ignores the reality that we are the province with the most fiscal capacity to fix these issues, if we wanted to. These are failures by the UCP and voters. Step one is recognizing reality, hop on the bus. Why can't we be better? We should have the best in Canada, and we can work from there.

Your argument would be stronger if you don't just say stuff because you think it's true. I honestly don't even know how you could type that, unless you live in some bubble of reality. Baffling.

- they’re de facto speaking for the province. With Danielle Smith effectively abrogating the position, and no one on the other side being a strong voice, all we hear is from one side and one message.
- the US is on board. Not only do we have the comments from Bessent (which shockingly haven’t been pushed back on by either government federally or provincially) but Rath and his crew have openly talked about meetings to secure a line of credit for $500b with US treasury officials.
- this question seems to have the momentum to get on the ballot. That’s a problem already, because of the pure rebellious nature that I think is underlying in Alberta. Combine that with the victimhood and perceived slights, and that’s rather scary.
- I think overall, I am surprised that no one seems to be taking this seriously. I don’t mean “us” on here, because I do think quite a few here are. I mean there’s really no politician who seems to be grabbing the reins and telling people why these schemes are so hare-brained or running any counter campaign. I realize that there is no question on the ballot yet, and in some ways nothing to campaign against, but at the same time there is a growing movement out there and it seems dangerous to just sit back and let that develop.

I agree, I'm not hearing a lot of vocal opposition from anyone inside Alberta from anyone in a position of authority. The citizen movement was/is promising, but someone needs to really start hammering on how stupid and dangerous this is.
From the American thread re: if this is treason/sedition -

High treason
46 (1) Every one commits high treason who, in Canada,
(a) kills or attempts to kill Her Majesty, or does her any bodily harm tending to death or destruction, maims or wounds her, or imprisons or restrains her;
(b) levies war against Canada or does any act preparatory thereto; or
(c) assists an enemy at war with Canada, or any armed forces against whom Canadian Forces are engaged in hostilities, whether or not a state of war exists between Canada and the country whose forces they are.
Treason
(2) Every one commits treason who, in Canada,
(a) uses force or violence for the purpose of overthrowing the government of Canada or a province;
(b) without lawful authority, communicates or makes available to an agent of a state other than Canada, military or scientific information or any sketch, plan, model, article, note or document of a military or scientific character that he knows or ought to know may be used by that state for a purpose prejudicial to the safety or defence of Canada;
(c) conspires with any person to commit high treason or to do anything mentioned in paragraph (a);
(d) forms an intention to do anything that is high treason or that is mentioned in paragraph (a) and manifests that intention by an overt act; or
(e) conspires with any person to do anything mentioned in paragraph (b) or forms an intention to do anything mentioned in paragraph (b) and manifests that intention by an overt act.
Canadian citizen
(3) Notwithstanding subsection (1) or (2), a Canadian citizen or a person who owes allegiance to Her Majesty in right of Canada,
(a) commits high treason if, while in or out of Canada, he does anything mentioned in subsection (1); or
(b) commits treason if, while in or out of Canada, he does anything mentioned in subsection (2).
Overt act
(4) Where it is treason to conspire with any person, the act of conspiring is an overt act of treason.

If you consider the US to currently be an enemy, which if you are considering the language of their leader I think you can make a very easy case, and/or if you consider the attempt to separate a province to be an act against Canada, I don't see why what their doing doesn't hit a number of these points. And I would bet that an actual investigation into communications between UCP and GOP official would show discussions around triggering and fostering an AB separatist movement. High Treason would be tough, but I think Treason and Overt Acts could have a case.

I agree. There is big foreign (US) money and influence in the separatist campaign. Even if support stays in the 20-30% range they have the organization and funding to mobilize their support and spread large amounts of misinformation.
I know a few people engaged with the separatist movement, most of the ones I know don't even really want to separate but think this is a way to "send a message to Ottawa" - and don't seem to grasp the consequences. Personally I think even having a referendum (regardless of outcome) will have significant negative effects on Alberta's economy, and if it succeeds it will be a huge mess.

APP leader and traitor Rath tweeted how Trump owned Carney in Davos and how embarrassed he is to be Canadian. No question who he is working for. #### off Traitor. Hope the Law Society disbars you.
[I don’t have twitter account to embed his tweet].
@Slava - I don’t think the separatists have ever exceeded 20% in independent polling. They will lose by 50 points if it ever gets voted on.
But we must be vigilant!

Yeah and I see that percentage as well. But here’s the thing, just getting it into the public eye and having their arguments virtually unchallenged and more mainstream will increase that percentage. Then you have the impact of the (completely nonsensical and ridiculous) arguments they have for sovereignty.
And add to this a wildcard like the US saying something like “we’ll help you out and take your dollars at par” and that would sway a lot of votes. I’ve talked to a lot of people who see that kind of thing as a huge windfall, and I have no doubt a lot of people would sellout for that conversion faster than you might expect.
