Sadly, since I think these pathetic morons will probably get enough signatures since Smith lowered the threshold. But it's gonna be hilarious when the actual vote fails spectacularly and these separatist losers all go crawling back under their rocks.
Although Alberta separatists are organizing for an independence referendum and say they’re gaining momentum, a new poll released Friday suggested that only one-fifth of Alberta respondents would vote to separate.
The Pollara Strategic Insights survey found that 19 per cent of the 1,000 Albertans surveyed say they would vote for separation, and 75 per cent would vote against it.
“It's always a bit surprising when we do this to see how low the separatism vote is, because it does often feel like it's bigger, because I think largely of the influence that sentiment has in Alberta,” said Matt Smith, the western executive vice-president with the polling firm.
“It's a very vocal minority and a very quiet super majority,” he said, adding the firm’s data consistently shows support has never been above 20 per cent.

I find the Alberta separatists are like the most annoying, loud people we deal with on a daily basis.
They are the Karen at shop complaining, the loud bro playing videos on his phone in the restaurant, the ###### with a lifted truck and ultra-loud exhaust, the friend who got into a pyramid scheme, the high school dropout pushing nutrition supplements.
And they just won't shut up about it.
There is little else to their personality.
For them every discussion topic is a vehicle to bring it back to separation and politics.
Is it a cult?
Are these people broken and need psychotherapy?
Or just very poorly educated and easily misled?
I don't know. But I'm glad (and also slightly horrified) that only 1/5 of Albertans are like these people.
I only know 2 separatists, through work. One of them actually had a Trump pic on their computer as wallpaper, loves Danielle Smith and spouts off about conspiracies. These are not bright people.
I know quite a bit. Mostly family/friends from northern/rural Alberta who blew the last oil boom and are hoping a US takeover will result in a drill baby drill mentality.
They've been fed a steady diet of western alienation since the 70's and our provincial politicians / "independent" new orgs have done exacerbated this.
Re posting this from the America thread.... definitely worth talking about from the Alberta perspective.

This was a pretty big slip up. The entire conversation is about Greenland, talking to a minister from Greenland, and this dumdum accidentally shifts gears to talk about how the people of Alberta want to leave Canada and join America.
I doubt Andy Ogles knew what Alberta was a year ago and now it is a talking point he dropped out of his face while trying to convince an official in Greenland that he knows the will of her people better than she does.
That must mean that the republicans are prepping their party for interviews about Alberta too.

The fact that they had to lower the threshold to get enough signatures give me a bit of comfort.
However, I'm pretty sure during the Quebec referendum, polling showed only 20% in favour of separating and we all know how close that one turned out to be.
FFS this is driving me nuts. There's enough uncertainty going on in the world as is without brewing even more within our borders.
Ask them how this is supposed to make anything better for Alberta. They’ll be hard-pressed go come back with anything that resembles logic.
Oh no. I'm not doing this. I fell into this trap with the flat-earthers and multiple different religious groups.
You cannot reason people out of a position they didnt use reason to get into.
It can't be done.
They can't even spell 'logic.'
I convinced someone that the Lizard-Man Global Government Conspiracy was a real thing. I thought I was being sufficiently over-the-top patently absurd that it was completely obvious that I was making #### up as I went along, but they were 100% on board by the time I was done.
So...watch out for that guy. I may have militarized him.

If you thought this season would have a happy ending, you haven't been paying attention.

We have a thick one here. He will walk around the office after he arrives at 10 and talk about vaccines or Carney (previously Trudeau) or Jordan Peterson. Daily I see a co-worker getting trapped by him so go in and either say that I think I'm getting sick and wondering if they had the latest flu vaccine or today it was, did you see that ridiculous Carney speech? Then fake that I get a phone call and Houdini out of there.
It is quite hilarious to trap people with his rants about women being narcissists or vaccines or the Libs or separation. They will come by an hour later and call me a fataing a-hole. It's the best.
I haven’t lived in Alberta for a while now, but I still have lots of family and friends who are still there. None of them are in favour of separation and from what they tell me, no one in their immediate circles (work/friends, etc..) support it either. They’re all convinced it’s a very small minority who are just very loud about it.
The fact that they had to lower the threshold to get enough signatures give me a bit of comfort.

Nope. The first polls in Sept. were on the "No" side, but after Bouchard took over, it reversed. All the polls in late October favored Yes by up to 6%.
And just to refute all the losers who have zero to say except nothing can be done and it's just as bad in the rest of Canada, so decades of Conservative failures aren't to blame, they also have some graphs to compare to the RoC.
Canada can't even host a world class event because of our crippled healthcare system.
Quote:
As Toronto and Vancouver gear up to co-host FIFA World Cup games this summer, an emergency doctor worries that Canada's overburdened health-care system won't be able to handle any extra demand that could result.
In an editorial published Monday in the Canadian Medical Association Journal (CMAJ) Dr. Catherine Varner points out that Canada's health-care system is already in a "constant state of surge capacity." Add in hundreds of thousands of visitors, she wrote, and it could be a recipe for disaster.
"Speaking from working right now in the middle of our flu season, where we haven't been able to handle a surge in acute care need anywhere in Canada it seems, I would be concerned going forward about having a surge in need for hospital resources," said Varner, CMAJ's deputy editor and an emergency doctor in downtown Toronto, in an interview with CBC News.
It's almost like repeating the mantra of Canadians being taxed to death and Conservatives making any tax increase discussion impossible has led us to a point where we don't fund it enough. Almost.
