Dysfunctional teams indeed do dysfunctional things.

The latest evidence of dysfunction within the New York Jets comes from TheAthletic.com. Among various juicy nuggets contained in the #longread is a claim that owner Woody Johnson nixed a trade with the Broncos for receiver Jerry Jeudy because Johnson believed Jeudy’s Madden rating was too low.

Per the report, that wasn’t the only time Johnson cited Madden ratings in connection with football decisions. Johnson reportedly pushed back on signing guard John Simpson because his “awareness” rating on Madden was too low. (Maybe even lower than Woody’s.)

Organizational failure always starts at the top. Insane but not surprising. The Douglas "I answer to a teenager" line made me feel bad for the guy.

Panthers, Jets, Bengals I'd wager are the worst owners in the sport. Bungles for cheapness and failure, panthers for hedge fund idiot running the team, jets for this whole story.

Yeah the Bungles are cheap more than poorly run. Which is exactly why they'll be keeping Zac Taylor instead of going for Ben Johnson.

Mark Davis doesn't belong there. He did a fantastic job maneuvering out of Oakland into Las Vegas going from one of the least valued franchises to one of the highest. He hired the first female team president and by all accounts doesn't meddle and treats people well. His issue is that he can't identify a good coach or GM which of course is incredibly frustrating and is reflected on the product but IMO that doesn't place him in with some of those other owners that are more unsavory and incompetent.

His issues are the only things that really matter lol. Not to say I'd be thrilled to have a Dan Snyder type, but if that type had actual on field success they'd be miles better than an "increased value, but doesn't actually win" owner (Jets value is up 10 fold what Woody paid...).

The thing is that eventually he will get it right and make the hire and things will take care of itself. The meddling owners are always going to get in the way regardless of how competent the people are below them.

On the one hand, that was really unlucky for the Broncos with the barely fair catch interference. On the other, Payton kind of botched that end of half, Chargers appeared cool running out the clock and the Broncos go for a nothing checkdown and it's incomplete. Next thing you know we get ourselves a free kick FG. So thanks for the rarity?
