Unless he is saying it was over a couple weeks ago which wouldn't surprise me

Yup. All the other ones are irrelevant to the cap because they are at, or basically at, the minimum. However, this one, at nearly $2M, definitely impacts the cap. And for that reason, it warrants criticism.

He will play IMO
1 year under 2M is not going to effect an Eichel deal one way or another is the point

I don't think Gudbranson could positively replace Stone let alone Anderson.

That would be one of the worst D cores in the league

Yes, because having an elite center and crappy defense has led to success for who exactly?

If these signings were going to signal a trade I figure the big trade would be imminent or already announced.

If Andersson is gone, you have
- Hanifin
- Tanev
- Valimaki
- Zadorov
- Gudbranson
- Mackey
- Kylington
- Stone
Assuming no other D are moved, the positive is that there's a lot of bodies for Sutter to pick from to find the best mix.
Going with this D core would be a huge gamble though. You're banking on one of the young D (Valimaki, Mackey, Kylington) to take a step into being a #4 and/or Sutter making Gudbranson and Stone look like NHL defensemen.
But if (big if) Eichel is coming back though I can live with it, and hope that Sutter gets the D to be greater than the sum of its parts.

What an offensive black hole the Defense will be. May as well go with 5 Forwards on the PP

We would be going with the Islanders approach on D with that group for sure.

It’s easier to acquire a middle pairing D at the deadline than an elite center. If this is to unload Andersson in another deal then so be it. Go and grab Eichel.

I think Valimaki goes in an Eichel trade before Andersson. He fits their timeline and the Flames have more depth on the left side. Tanev is too injury prone and all of a sudden Gudbranson or Stone are on your top pair

Treliving probably fell on his keyboard, and when he looked up, he had signed GuDBrAnSoN to $1.9five MiLL

In a silo yes.
But you would still be ok with Gudbranson in your top 4? We would be the next Oilers.
I gaurantee there are better D out there for the same or less money.

Maybe Hertl is the target. That's all I got.

For a bottom pairing/7th defender who may not even play on a 1 year contract, I can't imagine caring who fills the role for what price.
"This team is bad as built! We are not a contender!"
*signs Gudbranson with remaining cap space*
"WE ARE DOOMED!!!"
People here are funny.
