I see that Shapo is playing a qualifier in the first round would be fun if they put them against each other in the first round

That would be something - On the women's side, Maria Sharapova faces a qualifier in round 1. Could that qualifier be Genie?

Wow they listened to me it will be F.A.A vs Shapo round one! Get the popcorn ready
PoLLansky completes the grand slam and will play Zverev in the forest round.
Also Genie is playing someone ranked 399th in the first round she better not lose lol

Further proof they shouldn't listen to Nadal fans on anything but picking ones ass. Terrible for pretty much everyone, both could have had decent runs, and the crappy side of the draw pretty much peaks in round 1. Learn to rig draws USTA.

Shapo has some big time points to defend and should be favored to advance, but Felix is playing very well. Maybe in 4-5 years this will be the US Open final instead of a first round match.

Australia?
Edit: I cheated and looked it up. Wouldn't have guessed France.

Istomin won the Asian games gold yesterday in Jakarta. Now he has to fly to New York to play Stevie Johnson Monday at 1:30pm

As it worked out, Donald Young beating Polansky faces Delpo in the first round and PoLLansky gets Alex Zverev. Not a great outcome for either guy, but hey, Peter pockets 54 grand for getting in the main draw which isn't chicken feed.

There isn't a better opponent to face for a qualifier than Alex 5 set Zverev. Polansky is playing extremely well and Zverev is rubbish in majors. Go get him Peter.

The big thing is that Felix is playing loose and flawless tennis which will probably work to his advantage out there. Shapo has been very hot and cold since the French Open and has actually conceded that Felix typically beats him when they play. Tough match to predict.

So excited to see Nadal at this years US Open. Its been a great turnaround for him at this tournament where he used to be beat regularly in the first week but now it's his 2nd best major of his career. Top 5 Men's US Open player all time? 3 titles, ties him with Lendl for 5th most in the open era ahead of greats like Agassi and Djokovic.

Nadal has been knocked out of the first week of the US Open once since 2006. So ummmm why do you always have to exaggerate things with him? I get you wanna do everything in your power to make it seem like his accomplishments are far greater than they are to try and pump his tires in the GOAT race, but you're basically Trump with the lying. It's really embarrassing at this point.

cmon dudes this is supposed to be a more friendly sports thread, where we leave behind the fiery anger of the FOI forum and sing kumbaya while cheering on our Canadian heroes, plus our own personal favorites on the side.
that being said, I'm still super bitter about Fed's doom draw and the guaranteed elimination of a young Canadian star on day 1, so I hope Rafa's "easy" opponents give him hell the whole way through.

It should be kumbaya, but the martyrdom of Nadal is a bit much at this point. He's the heavy favorite to win this event given his cakewalk draw, so anything less than a loss to Novak in the final is a choke.

Anyway getting back to actual tennis, Halep on her way out in R1, so good thing for her psyche that she cashed that FO.
