I'd give a 2nd in a weak draft for Lazar. If he pans out great, if not chances are whoever we drafted with that pick doesn't either.

Timing would be weird for me, unless the Flames protect him and expose Brouwer. Giving up a 2nd as a gamble that he won't get claimed in expansion seems too risky. Easy situation to resolve in the end though.

I believe he was also a player that MacT had praised to the media, and said something like "what we need here is someone like Curtis Lazar". A lot of people believed that should be considered tampering.

Hm, didn't realize he had to be protected in the expansion draft. If that's the case I would wait for the off-season to make a move like that.
