So we're back to thinking we'll get two point per game 1st liners for Tkachuk?
Haha

I think they'll be lucky to get one. St Louis will have to move another to make room.

Quality cap dump if you like...who else are they gonna move to make room?

He was left unprotected because he had large injury concerns, and the Blues wanted to protect younger players.
He proved himself healthy and productive today.
Monny may have negative value today, but if he proves himself healthy and productive again, he value will increase.
That’s how it works.
If the Blues need to move out two PPG players to bring in Tkachuk, plus a first round pick, they may believe that’s a step backwards to improving the team.

I would be fine with 3 first round picks in the top 12 of the draft. That is the going rate for RFA’s with one year left before UFA who have made it clear to their current team that they will not re-sign with the team.

Quite the imagination you have there.
3 x 1sts in the top 12? I'm not sure any team has had that position in any draft ever. We had three picks the year we drafted Monahan and the other 2 didn't make the league.

The Columbus Blue Jackets (and their GM whose moves are often referred to as wizardry) extracted that price last year for a RFA who was one season before UFA and was not going to sign with their team. I said “the draft” not “a draft”, not expecting it to be the same draft (even Jarmo could not do that) but just 3 top 12 picks.

How do you get picks that you know are going to be that high?

And what trade are you referring to? Oh the Jones deal.
That’s some artistic license

First why would they make those deals?
Second are they on Tkachuk's list? Probably not.

How is the Jones deal artistic license? He was a player one year from UFA who was not going to sign with his team. His team got a former 8th overall pick, a 12th overall pick and a 44th overall pick by throwing in a 32nd overal pick and eventually a 6th overall pick. Only the 6th overall pick was uncertain. Jones is certainly a comparable, the fact pattern is very similar to the current Tkachuk fact pattern. I guess I should have added “or equivalent of” as the Flames are not going to go for 3 first rounders. Nonetheless, the idea that less than that should be acceptable in terms of value is laughable, Jarmo had no leverage either.

You are including a guy who probably doesn’t go top 12 in a redraft and a future pick that ended up being higher than most probably thought it would
But I get it. You are getting an early start on paving roadway for your future position that BT screwed up the deal. Early bird gets the worm!

The only way I see it is, if you take Kyrou and Tarasenko, St. Louis will lose some depth in that trade, then hope Binnington craps the bed during the regular season and doesn’t have Husso to bail him out. That’s a big if though

I almost wonder if a 2024 pick from St Louis ends up higher
Tkachuk makes them better but overall they may be a weaker team a year out

Well Tarasenko is likely gone either way, just depends if he plays the season there or not

And you and others are doing your best to position Tkachuk as this generations Jason Wiemer. I get it.

No, I would say more Aaron Gavey.

Would be nice to get similar return but Calgary has Treliving as GM so I wouldn’t get the hopes up too high.
