Sorry, for the first time he has other options? That's why Adam Fox is on the Flames right now, right? No other options?

If he waited a year, he wouldn’t have burned a year off his ELC.

I also think Johnny has more integrity than Fox. I think he felt that Calgary had supported him throughout the process and didn’t want to be heavy handed. He say a good opportunity in Calgary for development and it has worked out for him.

Last 2 seasons:

Landeskog - 44 pts & 52 pts + 26 playoff points
Johnny - 58 pts & 49 pts + 7 playoff points.

Johnny at $8 mil + will be a huge mistake.

Do you really think Johnny will simply nod and sign that contract?

What do you think Landeskog would have gotten on the open market?

I want you to think about how many points Johnny would get if he had MacKinnon and Rantanen as linemates.

I wouldn’t be shocked to see Johnny get 8m+.

Like you should talk Mr. Donuthole. Don't you have to kick Gaudreau's dog again? lol

My post was in response to the idea that Johnny's agent will use Nurse as a comparable. Sure he can, but BT could also use Landeskog as a comparable.

Could Landeskog have done better on the open market, of course. He took a home town discount. Why can't Johnny take a hometown discount too?

How many points one can get with particular line mates is irrelevant in the negotiation, actual production is what counts.

If Johnny was willing to take a home town discount, he’d be signed already of course.

Landeskog took the hometown discount hours before free agency.

That’s true.

But it was always known that Landeskog wanted very badly to return to Colorado, it was just a question of how much of a discount he would take. Same situation Stamkos was in. Their teams could afford to wait them out.

I don’t think anyone thinks that Johnny desperately wants to return to Calgary. He’ll return if the price is right.

I dunno, seems like he wants to stay in Calgary just as much as Landeskog wanted to stay in Colorado. For all we know, at least. Honestly, what inside information do you have on either player?

Saying it was just a question of just how much a discount Landeskog would take is no different than saying he’d return if the price was right.

End of the day, you’re just using different words to dance around statements that run contrary to reality. Johnny could take the hometown discount hours before free agency, just like Landeskog. Landeskog didn’t sign earlier because he was willing to sign when the price was right, just like Johnny.

The difference is that Landeskog was in the absolute perfect situation for him, playing on the best line in hockey with a team that’s poised to be a serious contender for the near future. It was widely reported that his preference was to stay in Denver.

I'd assume it takes 8 minimum to get Johnny signed. If he''s in the 7s I'd be really happy.

And he still didn’t sign until hours before free agency.

I guess we'll never know if he was gonna post 41 more pts in the 12 games that COVID cancelled.

Or 50 more points if we played 26 more to make a full 82 last season.

Why would he sign an extension after a down year? That’d be foolish

He can take a hometown discount if he likes, with a more current valuation next year

Well put.

This is a show me season for Johnny, IMO.
