Just read a quick summary on the GOP convention, as I didn't see a lot of it. Sounds like each night went down exactly as we thought it would. Nothing but fear mongering and trying to convince Americans that if Biden wins in November, their lives will essentially turn into a horror film. Immigrants, Antifa, BLM protesters, and pro-choice abortion rights activists are coming for you! They're gonna eat your children, take away your guns, and then murder you in your sleep. Aaaaaahhhh! (cue scary music)

Also, I love this tweet from Dan Rather.

That's doubly incredible that's it's coming from Jim Gaffigan, who famously only performs clean, family-friendly comedy.

I wonder how/if that translates to support at the polls. Probably not much.

I imagine there were a lot of viewers (including me, two nights) who watched just to see the **** show. This stuff fascinates me, to the chagrin of my wife who doesn’t get it.

I don't follow Jim on Twitter. He doesn't strike me as a political stance kind of guy.

Then again neither did Mike Birbiglia or HQ Host Matt Richards, but they certainly are.

What I find strange about the RNC was the fact that politicians tend to think of themselves as the hero, that their point of view is correct. Politicians are often called liars, when reality is a lot more complex (I'll balance the budget... needed to run a deficit due to an unforseen circumstance... oh he lied!).

However, the entire GOP have doubled down on not even spinning the truth, but outright lies. Stuff that is easily probable. To the point that they fear monger that if Biden is elected it will be exactly like Trump being president. It's... odd.

I might not have agreed with him but I do believe that Reagan tried to make America the shining city on the hill.

I think George H.W. Bush believed he worked to make America as bright as a thousand points of light.

I think Bill Clinton believed he was working hard to cure what was wrong with America with what was right with America.

I think George W. Bush believed he was altruistic and protecting American citizens with regard to the war on terror.

I think Barack Obama believed that together yes, we can!

I don't think Donald Trump has any intentions of making America great again, or keeping it great. I think Trump is out solely for Trump and doesn't care what steaming pile of ashes is left behind.

I think the first 44 presidents believed they were the hero, doing what is right for America. I think the 45th doesn't care, and is out to destroy it if it makes him a buck.

Just read that Trump's speech was 70 minutes long?? Holy crap, lol. I'm betting that by the 10 minute mark people either fell asleep or just stopped paying attention, especially knowing how ridiculous and sleepy he sounds when reading off a teleprompter.

In comparison, Biden's speech on the last night of the DNC was a taut 24 minutes.

It was that, plus an endless parade of women and people of colour vouching for what a swell and caring person he is. He loves women and blacks! Even found time to grant citizenship to a handful of brown people - he loves immigrants!

Some of the speakers weren’t his family, and a few didn’t come across as cultists.

All rainbows and sunshine in contrast to Biden!

That last (China) ad from the Lincoln Project is the type of thing the Democrats could do with a hell of a lot more of. Take Trump's biggest brags and "accomplishments" and run a tank straight through them. It's maybe one way to get through to his base, and avoid all their whataboutism.

And honestly, I don't even care at this point if the content is selective, unfair, or pure spin. His base have proven to be marks, and the Democrats shouldn't shy away from playing the same game in order to shake Trump's spell on them. Not this time around, anyway.

Of course, that assumes these things get any play in conservative-world, which is another problem entirely.

If they aren't playing on Fox News, then sadly none of these ads matter. If they could run them during Carlson, Hannity, and Ingraham's shows, then you might just be able to make a small dent in Trump's base.

Lincoln Project ads are played on Fox, some even during Tucker Carlson's show

Leading up to the RNC, they also had a fundraising campaign to pay for one of their ads to play during the broadcast of the convention (I'm assuming on Fox). I haven't checked, but I assume they were able to get to the target.

What ads are the Democrats running? Without the Lincoln project it seems like there would be very few effective attack ads.

Democrats are focusing on spending on down ticket battles. There's lots of money being spent by both sides in Arizona in the Senate race between McSally and Kelly. Trumps ads are still flowing here as well (which means the state is in play) but not much from the Dems yet. I think they are keeping their powder dry.

Doesn't startle me. Anyone waving a 'Keep America Great' flag is obviously moronic enough to vote for Trump. If this is great what the hell is bad?
