The federal cabinet will announce its decision on the Pacific NorthWest LNG project later today, CBC News has learned.

Hold your breath folks.... and hope for the best. Boost in gas prices would be great.

I thought the expectation would be this would further lower gas prices?

Hopefully Petronas can still finance this project.

Who cares what it will do to prices as long as someone is buying.

If we have more customers, wouldn't that tend to push prices up? That was my assumption, anyway. I'm not a market talkin' guy though.

It's to export to Asia where gas prices are upwards of $15/mcf.
Instead of selling here where the price is anywhere from $2-$0/mcf

While a good start, the Petronas terminal will do little to ease the glut of gas on the BC system, and by extension, the Alberta systems. There remains few places for our gas to go at present time.

That said, it better be approved.

That's actually about 2 years out of date you've put up there... LNG pricing is tied to crude - it is not $15/mcf any more, and hasn't been for years. Japan has some of the highest per mcf costs, and their gas prices have plummeted to under $6/mcf:

https://ycharts.com/indicators/japan...s_import_price

May Contract was $5.86/mcf

Economics for LNG is out of Canada challenged.

Liberals have done far stupider. Wouldn't surprise me if they held a press conference to tout the great wall of Trudeau blocking another Mongolian Albertan invasion

This is an easy win for the Feds I feel.

Give the project a go knowing the main obstacle will be whether Patronas views it as economically viable, lay most of the responsibility at the feet of the provincial liberals and fade away into the sunset.

Polak: Profitable at $20? Sure... Perhaps one boomer well on half-cycle economics (IP90....) in the heart of the Permian or the Stack. Full cycle, corporate returns to earn an IRR over 10-15% (ie: the level needed to incent capital to invest)? That's more like $45-50 in the heart of the permian, but for the average US conventional producer, that's $60-65.
The best shale is not meaningfully cheaper then the best SagD. And certainly isn't cheaper then any replacement Barrels. And that includes the discounts applied to our oil.
