So if you believe that Ehlers could definitely play spoiler for the top 4.
Islander's losing 2-0 right now, we better hope Ehlers becomes a wild card at this point.

Too early to tell with his Florida picks.
His draft and trade record is second to very few if anyone.

Remember, he was in charge of Blackhawks draft from 2001 before being named GM in 2005.

Jonathan Toews: drafted 3rd overall in 2006.
Patrick Kane: drafted 1st overall in 2007.
Niklas Hjalmarsson: drafted 108th overall (fourth round) in 2005.
Antti Niemi: signed#as a free agent rookie on May 5, 2008.
Patrick Sharp: acquired from Philadelphia on Dec. 5, 2005 with Eric Meloche for Matt Ellison anda 2006 3rd round pick.
Kris Versteeg: acquired from Boston on Feb. 3, 2007 for Brandon Bochenski.
Ben Eager: acquired from Philadelphia on De. 18, 2007 for Jim Vandermeer.
Andrew Ladd: acquired from Carolina on Feb. 26, 2008 for Tuomo Ruutu.
Marian Hossa: signed as a free agent on July 1, 2009.
Tomas Kopecky: signed as a free agent on July 1, 2009.
John Madden: signed as a free agent on July 2, 2009.
Brian Campbell: signed as a free agent July 1, 2008.
Cristobal Huet: signed as a free agent on July 1, 2008.
Brent Sopel: signed as a free agent on Sept. 28, 2007.
Jordan Hendry: signed as a free agent on March 18, 2006.
These are just the roster moves made while Tallon was sitting in the GM’s office. From 1998-2002, Tallon served as the Director of Player Personnel

While sitting in his two previous positions, though, Tallon was responsible for the draft strategy and talent evaluation of the team. In the drafts while he was in those roles, consider the following draft picks:

Duncan Keith: drafted 54th overall (second round) in 2002.
Adam Burish: drafted 282nd overall (ninth round) in 2002.
Brent Seabrook: drafted 14th overall (first round) in 2003.
Dustin Byfuglien: drafted 245th overall (eighth round) in 2003.
David Bolland: drafted 32nd overall (second round) in 2004.
Troy Brouwer: drafted 214th overall (seventh round) in 2004.
.

Updated video of Dal Colle

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VLas6fFmHl4

I wouldn't be disappointed if he was available to us at 5 if Bennett's gone. I personally think he'd be a better choice than Draisaitl. Seems to have the potential to be a game breaker with a solid centre like Monahan.

Great highlights of Dal Colle Thx, and some seriously awful defence on display in those videos.

MDC would be a good pick. Any of the top 5 guys (Draisaitl + MDC + the consensus top 3) will be useful players, either as a 2nd line C, or as a good winger (I'm assuming Ek is gone)

Can't really go wrong with any of the 5.

I like MDC's reach in that video. Definitely could be useful in a top 6 role, especially with guys like Gaudreau and Sven.

Here's a video on potential second round pick Ryan MacInnis. Son of Flames Great Al MacInnis.

Needs to develop more but he has a great nose for the net.

Macinnis stands a good chance to be an NHL player because of his size and package of tools. Nothing overly impressive with his package of skills though. If he makes it, it'll likely be in a secondary scorer role. Could also see him busting as well.

With his shot and size, I'd almost rather convert him into a defenseman. Would be decent two way defender.

I like Ryan Macinnis, I think he's got untapped offensive potential. I haven't scouted thousands of players personally like you have but I think he'll have a much bigger year offensively next year.

I'd like him in the 2nd round. Thrilled if he ends up in the 3rd though.

I haven't scouted a lot in person, I rely on video clips from around the net to do the lion share of my research. I'm just extremely nitpicky on all the little details of how the players do what they do and compare what the end products are of players that have certain groups of talents. (it helps when you're a decorator to be that attentive to detail.)

He's not bad, I always tend to prefer a little flash in some regard in the 2nd and beyond (look at Granlund and Gaudreau's offensive skill, or Sieloff's physicality). Mac doesn't really have that flash, but with his size that doesn't mean he couldn't become a solid 2nd line guy in the nhl down the road because he does have all the individual talents necessary, albeit at a lower level. He would have to learn to use his size more effectively than he does right now, and that size would help to overcome the slightly lesser skill level that he's showing. If he uses his size effectively, he could be a dangerous player. That's why I'd prefer making him a defenseman, because his slightly lesser skill level as a forward, would actually make him fairly awesome as a D-man and with his size, that's a great combo.

With our 2nd 2nd I would definitely take him if he was on the board still. I don't think he'll make it to our 1st 2nd though.

Does anyone know if Dal Colle could be converted into a RW? A lot of his goals seemed to come from the right side, and he has a killer one-timer. If he were converted we could easily see a top 6 of

Gaudreau - Monahan - Dal Colle
Baertschi - Backlund - Poirer

in the future. If we get lucky and land Mcdavid or Eichel they could slot into Backlunds spot and push Backlund into a 3rd line shutdown role. The future is looking a little brighter.

With Mac, my issues are with his speed, hands and stickhandling all of which are slightly below average for a forward. He has a good pass and especially shot (It's scary how much the movement and style is like Al's)

If you could make him a D-man, he'd be as sure of a thing as you could get with a late 1st/2nd round pick. I hope the Flames ask him if he'd be willing to shift back there when they interview him at the draft combine.

Anything you hear from any team about any player and who they're interested in is complete and utter B.S. at this point. The only reference to go by is the general ranking of each prospect.

That includes Oilers like Drasaitl, Panthers like Ehlers, etc. etc. etc.

It's all mind games.

If we can get one of the 2 Sams or Ekblad by winning the draft lottery or trading up, that would be great. If not, the player below the top 3 I'm most excited about is Ehlers. He would be the best skater and stickhandler on the team with excellent scoring potential and playmaking. Unlike many with top skills, he is unselfish and uses his team mates very well. He also has a fine defensive game and backchecks like a demon. He plays at a high tempo every shift. I saw him play in Charlottetown when Drouhin had not returned to the lineup from the World Juniors. He made at least a half dozen perfect passes onto team mates sticks when they were in scoring position. The fact that only one was converted says a lot about why most juniors don't make the pros. I kept imagining these passes landing on Monahan's stick! The only knock on Ehlers is size. He was listed at 5' 11" and 163 lbs. at the start of the season. I've seen more recent info listing him at 5' 11.5" or 6' 0" and 169 pounds. He will likely need another season in junior to add weight/strength just as the 5' 11" Drouhin needed (he now is over 190 lbs.). Ehlers is not a perimeter player and is fearless. He drives the defence back with his speed and moves opening up ice for his team mates. He deserves to be in the Flames' conversation.

I just really want Dal Colle if the two Sam's and Ekblad are gone! His size and skill level are excellent! It would be another solid addition to a potential top line! Monahan - Dal Colle

Ehlers would be exciting, but I just can't see Burke drafting him ahead of Dal Colle, Perlini, Virtanen, or maybe even Ritchie. Burke has continually said that he wants more size in the lineup.

On top of that, the bigger players are to complement the smaller skilled wingers already in our system in Baertschi, Gaudreau and Byron. While Ehlers is a phenomenal player - as far as organizational needs go for the Flames, small skilled LW'ers are as far down the list as you can get. He'd be a great fit with Tavares or Bjugstad.

Ehlers + Gaudreau + Baertschi wouldn't be a good way to build your wings. I still think Burke has to be targeting a centre. We need another solid centre to establish a 1-2-3 punch with Monahan and Backlund.

I could also see Florida jumping the gun on either Ehlers or Dal Colle, which would then better position us for a centre. Draisaitl, Bennett or Reinhart would make me really happy on draft day!
