I'm not sure why that's good for Canada. Mexico is probably 90% for finishing first. Canada, US and others are in the next tier fighting for other spots.

I thought it was an odd substitution as well. Costa Rica were putting three players on Davies every time he gained possession and now they're playing like an entirely different team.

That's a good point. I can see some strategy of getting him out of the abuse from the Costa Ricans/saving him for Tuesday/Putting in defensive players to protect the lead. But yeah, having 3 guys watching him hurts their chances to attack even if Davies just shuts down and hangs out as a threat.

Perhaps there was a fitness concern we're not aware of.
Not a great match from an entertainment point of view but a great result for Canada. If the Mexico match on Tuesday ends in a draw it'll be a great international break.
Canada are now the only unbeaten team in the group.

You would think so, but El Salvador got sanctioned for pitch invasions (among other things) and have to play their next home game with part of the stadium closed to fans.
