[QUOTE=CaptainYooh;4861425]Just returned from a trip to Hoover Dam. For an engineer, seeing this enormous structure in the middle of the desert up close was one thing. But knowing that it was built in 1930's in only 4 years was simply unbelievable and mind boggling. 42 degrees of scorching heat was something else, of course. I used the widest lens I had in the bag (14-24), but it's still difficult to have a true perception of its size from the photographs. Trucks at the bottom are somewhat helpful. BTW, the power towers are built at a 45-degree angle to the rocks.

To give an idea of the scale of the Hoover Dam, consider that it is thicker at the base (660 feet) than the Calgary Tower is tall (626 feet). That's a lot 'o concrete!

Thanks!

These were handheld with a hotshoe mounted flash and 100mm Tokina Macro.

I've got a couple more I can post tomorrow.

Was out on Sunday doing a bit of storm chasing to play with the new cam. Ended up taking these sunset photos near Longview & Okotoks.

My Fiance snapped this shot while we were on the front porch a few weeks ago.
She then made a hasty retreat into the house, was good for a laugh.
Picture was taken close to 10:00PM, no street lights, or flash, the lightning made it look like it was the middle of the afternoon.

It was pretty intense, but not at all what I was expecting. The storm had been going on for about half an hour by the time she got this pic, with a lot of lightning and rumbling thunder, to the point our house was shaking and some pictures had fallen off the wall. When that bolt struck, it wasn't a low rumble that had followed the other strikes, this one was high pitched, and sounded like glass shattering all around us. It was a pretty cool experience.

So this Sunday is another supermoon. Any recommendations for clearings to go to outside of Calgary? Ideally SW.

Also, any advice in terms of aperture setting for shooting would be appreciated.

See below.

Because moonlight is simply reflected sunlight, this is a variation of the "sunny f/16 rule".

If you let your camera do the metering, it will see more darkness and will tend to overexpose, which is why the moon ends up as a big blob.

Does anyone have a recommendation for canvas printing that doesn't require a business?
