Actually I ####ed up.
The lie Chapel perpetuated is she let La'an and Pike believe it was Dak'rah's knife.

I would be more mad about this if Crave wasn't total garbage- the user interface sucks, it's slow, the content is extremely mediocre. I will be glad to have one less reason to keep it as my free add on with my telus package.

I wonder if we'll see Trek eventually pop up on Paramount+.
They also seem to have changed the file versions they have for DS9. It's gone from the DVD versions to what seems like an even lower res version that was in syndication (has title card for commercial breaks etc)

My parents got it months ago to watch The Last of Us and Star Trek: Picard, and they asked if I could get the app set up on their year-old Samsung TV.
It didn't matter what I did: that piece-of-#### app absolutely, positively would not allow anyone to log in!

M'Benga did not "genocide" anyone. Dak'rah, as a general and leader of the Klingon forces on J'Gal, ordered his men to kill anyone who wasn't a Klingon soldier. This meant the indiscriminate killing of civilian colonists.
The story he told everyone was that he killed the next level of Klingon leadership below him—General Gra'val, Captain Ruh'lis and Commander Kiff—because they disobeyed orders to stop the killing of civilians. He's known by the nickname "The Butcher of J'Gal" by both sides: by Federation forces for the original order to kill anyone and everyone, and by the Klingons for having been a turncoat who 'butchered' his own senior leadership and defected to the other side.
M'Benga was the real "Butcher of J'Gal" from the Klingon perspective, insofar as he is the one who actually killed Gra'val, Ruh'lis and Kiff. In reality, Dak'rah simply fled while Gra'val, Ruh'lis and Kiff fought off a Federation special ops soldier on a mission to kill them all: M'Benga.
Dak'rah's story was entirely untrue. From the Klingon perspective, he wasn't just a turncoat who killed his subordinates: he was a coward who fled from the battlefield as those very same subordinates fought off a Starfleet soldier. That's why he said he was ashamed of his cowardice.
However, what's even more damning is that from the Federation perspective he isn't really a Klingon general who saw the errors of his ways and killed his own men when they wouldn't follow his order to stop killing civvies: he never gave the order to stop. The only reason the killing stopped is because Dak'rah fled while M'Benga succeeded in killing the senior Klingon leadership.
There would be no Klingon witnesses to dispute Dak'rah's story: M'Benga killed them all. And it was most certainly not a war crime: he targetted only Klingon forces.
Chapel did not tamper with the knife: the d'k tahg had blood from Gra'val, Ruh'lis and Kiff on it because it was the knife used to kill them all. The only lie Chapel perpetuated is she let Chin-Riley and Pike believe the knife belonged to Dak'rah, when it reality we the viewers know it it belonged to M'Benga, because it still fits the commonly-believed narrative that Dak'rah killed his own men.

I'm not sure what Starfleet's rules of engagement are, but it appears that M'Benga went rogue, juiced up, and went on a killing spree. Although he was asked earlier to join the fighting unit and said no, when he did go out they don't show him being ordered to do so. Now I know he only killed military targets (with a knife, cause that makes sense in the 23rd century), but most militaries do not permit their soldiers to just take off and start killing people.

The entire 'Rambo' Franchise respectfully disagrees.

Oh I don't disagree that what M'Benga did wasn't entirely kosher. Presumably he violated at least a couple Starfleet rules of engagement. However, those rule violations do not constitute war crimes; that was the point I made in direct response CaptainCrunch's comment.
That said if, say, a WWII Allied commando entered the Fuhrerbunker and killed Himmler, Goering and General Hans Krebs in a (failed) attempt to kill Hitler, would he have been punished? Almost certainly not; he would have been hailed a hero.
The bit about using a knife and killing them in hand-to-hand combat I find pretty easy to hand-wave away as 1) M'Benga was a hand-to-hand combat expert, as his Andorian special ops friend said, and 2) presumably M'Benga entered the Klingon base by stealth, specifically in the attempt to get to Dak'rah and the senior leadership. Had he gone in phasers blazin' he likely wouldn't have made it very far.

What, they don't have silencers on their space lasers? It's okay, I'm willing to let it go, but there is no way individual hand-to-hand combat would be the best way. Eventually, someone would have shot him.

... No, I'm pretty sure in the canon of Star Trek they don't have silencers on their space lasers. They all make loud pew-pew sounds. *shrug*

"Is there any way to make these phasers quieter?"
- "Dammit Jim I'm a Doctor not a phaser engineer!"

ALL ABOARD!

I thought I was going to hate the musical episode but I didn't. It was fun. I also almost spit out my coffee at the musical number with 6 minutes left in the show. Hilarious.
