If there's only a 5% difference between the two players, then New Jersey is equally foolish.
I think it's more likely that both teams are correct in valuing Mercer much higher than Holtz.

This is comparable to Mike stink eye Smith.
Same stats. Same age. Same term left. Stink eye was also a better playoff goalie.
If a 1st and Holtz is on the table with no retention you take it and run.
