I don't get the people who think everyone who isn't shouting for a rebuild or change of scenario trades are giving Treliving an A+ rating. I have accepted the Flames aren't going to rebuild until forced.

That's why I'm still in the Eichel or bust camp. There is a chance the Flames suck and Gaudreau wants out. The last thing the Flames should do is trade futures for a non-impact player.

I’m actually legitimately curious, have you ever criticized the Flames, for anything? I don’t think I’ve seen it but it’s possible.

It sounds like they may be able to get Brady Tkachuk to sign an 8x8 and Dorian declared the time to win is now. They are ready to make a move and I could see them having interest in Monahan.

To Flames: Eichel
To Sens: Monahan
To Sabres: Dube, L.Brown, Brannstrom, Coronato, Flames 22 1st, Sens 2nd, Panthers 2nd

Sabres get 7 pieces for Eichel including 3 young guys they can plug into their NHL lineup. They get a recent top 15 pick and 3 future picks. I would hope the flames could protect that pick maybe with a games played condition combined with top 10 protection?

Sens get Monahan who would represent a piece that helps them move forward. Dorian just seems like the guy that would pay this price and declare the team is making the playoffs.

Flames make the move 90% of this fanbase wants and all of a sudden this does become a transformational offseason and a clear 5 year window is opened.

Gaudreau-Eichel-Tkachuk
Mangiapane-Lindholm-Coleman
Lucic-Backlund-Pitlick/Pelletier
Lewis-Richardson-Richie/Pitlick

Hanifin-Tanev
Zadorov-Andersson
Valimaki-Mackey
Kylington

Markstrom
Vlader

Love that top 6 and could be a serviceable bottom 6 committed to Sutter style of play.
A trade where Monahan is a significant part of the package for Eichel is a clear win IMO.

Not true though.

Have said many times I don't like the core. Have said many times that there is ample reason to let Treliving go if that's the way a person wants to go. Have said many times that Treliving bet on the Monahan/Gaudreau combo as a top line and was wrong.

I lean to the positive in all aspects of life for sure, but don't confuse that with being a team apologist. Won't hold.

Look harder I guess.

Or don't. I don't care.

I'm a hockey fan. That comes with a degree of hope in my mind. I don't get the hate and criticize everything crowd as I see it as soul sucking the reason you're a fan in the first place.

How do you have hope still? They have passed the first round twice in 30 years...

If Ottawa got Brady to sign an 8 year deal, wouldn’t they be more interested in his brother than Monny?

So you have no hope? Why on earth are you here then? I'd recommend to put your energy towards something that actually is enjoyable for you.

Because it's a heck of a lot more fun than having a giant rain cloud follow you around.

But the 30 year thing, I've seen others hung up on that. I just don't see it as a single entity. Different players, different coaches, different GMs, different financial climate.

And of course the players, coach, management, etc. are all same as throughout that entire period. So nothing will ever change.

Does loyalty not matter to anyone anymore? I’ve always had hope for the Flames.

Maybe it’s not our time. No, I know it’s not our time, yet. But, I think we’ve got to give this team the benefit of the doubt with a HoF coach at helm, and with a coaching staff I know for a fact he had input on.

Eichel or no Eichel, we’re still in a weak division where anything can happen. So, while I think we aren’t a bonafide contender this season, all it takes is to win 4 games in a 7 game series. I think we have the coach that can do that. He proved it in ‘04, ‘12, and ‘14.

Not really relevant though other than the last few seasons

The problem seems to come from the mandate of "playoffs no matter what," which sounds to me like an ownership issue.

From a business perspective that philosophy makes sense. No matter how crappy the team is, they know fans in Canada will show up and support them, and that playoff games will always sell out. So as an owner you simply mandate whatever makes you the most money over the long term.

Sucks for fans though, because that strategy doesn't win cups - it ensures a lifetime of comfortable mushy middle-ness. We will all likely go to our graves never seeing the Flames become a truly elite team, but at least Murray Edwards can die happy in his Scrooge McDuck money pit somewhere in Switzerland.

Seems to be an issue in all Canadian markets.

Don't blow it up and go for max success, but desperately try and get partial success year after year.

Well it could still be an option but the pieces would move around quite a bit. The Flames would give up less of the futures and Ottawa would be upping their contribution to the trade substantially

Do you think the Florida Panthers are any good? because they have a worse track record. Leafs? why bother its a first round loss.

As a sports fan you kind of have to have blind faith
