For me personally, people being shi**y in a non-criminal way in their personal relationships is ultimately not really anyone else's business. Even if that person is a celebrity.
Obviously there's a gray area there (patterns of abusive behavior etc.), but that behavior by Hill people are discussing there seems mostly off topic in this thread.
As already pointed out, it was brought up because of the other allegations against him that came out at the same time (which seem mostly like to be made up). I don’t think anyone is coming close to suggesting the kind of emotional abuse on display is in the same realm as sexual abuse or that it warrants a place in this thread on its own.
He chose to date a surfer and then demanded she take down photos and videos of her surfing because she was in a swimsuit, which is what people surf in.
There’s no way to excuse that as being a little controlling or trying to stop “hollywood” from getting hold of it. She’s a surfer.
Specifically, he wanted her to take down pictures that featured her rear end and not her actual sport.
Abuse and controlling behaviour certainly exists in degrees. I've yet to date someone that didn't try to change my behaviour. In fact, I'd argue that being in a monogamous relationship is by definition a form of control.
Does this mean Jonah Hill should be cancelled? No.
Does this make Jonah Hill look stupid? Absolutely. He dates a pro surfer and surf-model and then expects her to not do surf-modelly things. I do acknowledge that dating an A-list celebrity comes with its own set of rules, as their image is their business. However, her business was surf modelling.
Anyways, I'd file this incident far more under celebrity gossip than "High Profile Sexual Abuse".

Well, he wanted her to take down a video and other photos of her surfing that featured her rear end, so it definitely included her actual sport.
At the end of the day it’s worth repeating what Brady said, as she said it best: it doesn’t make him a terrible person, but that doesn’t mean how he acted was OK either. Which is pretty fair.

The bolded above may not necessarily be "control", but it's definitely a compromise... I don't think we can start labelling compromises made in our relationships as control.
And this is kind of how I see it... I really can't be bothered to do a deep dive on their text exchange, but from what I saw, Hill stated his expectations for a relationship and ended with something along the lines of "if this doesn't work for you, cool, we can just be friends"...
Sure, she's a surfer and a model, so if his expectations for a relationship don't jive with her (professional) life, then maybe they just shouldn't be in a relationship... To me, it sounds like something someone in therapy would be encouraged to do - be honest, clear and upfront.
I'm not going to judge whether or not these are reasonable conditions to have a relationship with Hill (I understand his celebrity would make things different and probably even unrelatable for 99% of us), but I can say for 100% certainty that he was a heck of a lot more clear than any of my exes and, to be honest, about as clear as my (now) wife was early in our relationship... There was something that came up, she asked me to make a not insignificant change in my life, told me her reasons why it was important to her, and at the end of the day, I decided that she was more important to me than the thing she asked me to change.
I can't help but feel like we (especially men) are constantly bombarded with the messaging that we need to be more open and communicative in our relationships and be more clear about what we need/want/expect, rather than bottling it up. Here we have Hill doing just that, and it's being viewed as manipulative? I don't know...

I think people are really forgetting the human element of celebrities and their relationships. If you were to go through the average non-celebrity's behaviour and look for all the things they did that are "not okay", you'd probably find far worse than this.
This seems way more like a witch hunt than stopping actual abuse.
Brady's main point was that Hill was putting forth some kind of pro-therapy, liberal, openness image, but, in reality, he had his own conservative hangups and was a hypocrite.....image orientated person is a hypocrite....shocking! Anyone who promotes themselves as a liberal person, but then goes out of their way to publicly show off their new tattoos is going to end up being a bit of ######.
Hill has always been known to be a bit of a prick. He's the kind of person who does things to draw attention to his private life, but then loses his cool when a fan approaches him on the street. He's always been known as someone who wants to have their cake and eat it too. So not surprising that he would want to date a model, but not have her show off her body publicly. That's actually pretty on brand for him.
It also looks like Brady is going out of her way to sabotage Hill. Including by publishing various text messages that were private and not necessary to her argument. Once again, I'd throw this more in the gossip pile than the abuse pile.
…He's always been known as someone who wants to have their cake and eat it too...
What’s the point of having a cake if you can’t eat it?

Is it, like, a vegan insult? "Soy eatin' high falutin' la-de-das!" I guess I could Google it, but that's less fun.
It’s just some low-rent 4chan insult that insecure men use. There’s really nothing to understand about it, as it’s basically become more of an insult to the user than whoever they’re trying to use it on.

I believe it stems from some nonsense claim that soy contains high levels of estrogen, so consuming it makes men less manly.
Ah, ok, that I guess makes for a reasonable explanation of a lame insult. Basically the typical insult the manliness of someone better than you to make yourself feel more manly. Hope it worked out.
