Last time I took WestJet was a similar story. A friend and I were coincidentally coming back from Vancouver Island on separate flights that landed within minutes of each other. We landed and both planes disembarked almost simultaneously. I offered him a ride home in lieu of taking a cab or Uber or whatever, as I had parked in the econo lot. I only had carry-on, but unfortunately he checked a bag.
It took almost an hour for bags from his flight to start getting dumped on the carousel.

Unfortunately WestJet has really screwed up their ground operations/baggage in Calgary by contracting out that service in 2020. It was a horrible decision and they are slowly moving back towards bringing the service in-house but the last few years have really pissed a lot of customers off.

I'm assuming this is in jest but to clarify, my dislike of WestJet has absolutely nothing to do with the type of planes they fly and I'll get on board MAX planes all day long. It has more to do with their general incompetence and operational nightmares I have to deal with on a daily basis working at YYC.

It's timed for passengers originating in Calgary and terminating in LA and vice versa. The WestJet flights are timed for connections. It's not timed for premium passengers, per se.

Yes, that was a poor choice of words. Better phrasing would have been "that's an expensive (aka premium) schedule to operate because they're resting the aircraft and crew in Calgary away from their base over night in order to create a more attractive schedule for o&d passengers."
I didn't mean premium in terms of people who fly in premium cabins, just that they're spending more money to offer attractive times.

Gotcha, yeah that's fair. Keep in mind that 5 United crews will be overnighting here. A bit more maintenance will be coming online as a result. If that tail was just going to RON at LAX, it can now come here and get a bit of mx overnight which wouldn't have happened last summer. As far as the crew, based on what I already know about how United schedules currently, I'd bet a dollar or two the crew will actually route ORD-YYC-LAX and vice versa.

Not YYC related but some nice wins in there for YEG and nice to see the return of transAtlantic service from central and eastern Canada. Will be interesting to see how it plays out from YYZ with 737's

YEG deserves no wins. Fortress YYC for life.

The YEG wins are mostly mainline taking over former Swoop flying at higher fares, so in true E=NG fashion they haven't really won.

Have they ever done an analysis on the placement of YEG 100kms away from city centre?

My Analysis says that this is the proper distance for an airport from Edmonton

Mirabel/Dorval is pretty interesting to dig into as well, with a few similarities.

There was an airport downtown as you recall, literally the first official airport in Canada.
Mind you, YYC was also out in the middle of nowhere in the 1930s when they moved to the present location.

Best location of any airport I've been to is San Diego. Only 15 minutes from the heart of downtown

Miami and Fort Lauderdale as well. Although with Fort Lauderdale it isn't about going downtown but rather the beaches which is 15 minutes or less.
