I hate how the UCP and the Federal Cons pretty much swallowed up the PCs and there's now no alternative to the Liberals. It's basically do I go with a party with corruption and less deplorables (Liberals), or a party with corruption and way more deplorables (UCP / Cons). Now we know why Liberals continue to stay in power.

Yes, living in a 2 party system is terrible... if only there was another party....

After aggressive lobbying by coal companies, in 2020 the UCP government(Jason Kenney's) quietly rescinded restrictions on open-pit mining in the Rockies (the 1976 Coal Policy).

Unprecedented public opposition then forced the government to restore those protections in 2021 and 2022.

One of the chief benefactors of Wahl Citadel’s funding was the Canadian business law firm Bennett Jones. In fact, lawyers with the firm have handled most of the Australian coal lawsuits against the Alberta government. Jason Kenney, the UCP premier who invited foreign speculators to mine the Rockies in 2020 with promises he could not keep, now works as a senior adviser for Bennett Jones.

Good of you to hang out and white knight for Jason ####ing Kenney, of all people. How you can pretend to be Conservative and not care about this kind of waste and profiteering should be baffling, but that pretty much sums you up in general, so it's no surprise you consistency is so flippy flappy.

Thomas Lukaszuk's Forever Canadian petition is approved by Elections Alberta.

The grenade is now in Premier Danielle Smith's lap.

You did say that the coal company was his client while replying to a post that claimed Kenney was a lawyer for the firm.

Ya, that is where the regulations should be driving the insurance industry - 100% compensation.

Especially in auto-insurance where it is mandatory to have it. Why give the insurance companies a product that we are forced to buy but not force them to fully compensate us when we need to use the product?

When you think about who benefits from the way the system is built right now, you know it is not the average person.
- The insurance companies make piles of money selling everyone insurance but then trying to dodge every claim that they can
- The lawyers get to make money in the lawsuits following an insurance claim
- The rich people who can afford the best lawyers benefit the most from the lawsuits
- The poor people who cannot afford lawyers get buried under ever-increasing insurance costs, screwed by the insurance companies during a claim, and lose in the legal process that they cannot afford to participate in

Even the car companies win once an insurance company writes off a car and tells the owner to go get a new one.

So he's a senior advisor for the law firm representing Australian coal companies. Forgive me deeply for not having every detail in the correct place for you to connect dots. Perhaps I'll colour code the trail of obvious for you next time, but since you seem to need more help, Jason Kenney is making money that ultimately comes from taxpayers for a problem he himself created against the wishes of Albertans.

Most rational people would instantly see why this is Bubbles level greasy.

Oh please, I seem to recall you abandoned your own thread on the subject after it was shown your personal vision for the Federal NDP would never make inroads in with most voters -- never mind in Alberta -- as it'd be led by an unelectable dumpster-fire who basically saw Steven Guilbeault and thought "Yeah, people want that!"

Yeah, wouldn't it be nice if there was another party that didn't suck.

This is exactly the type of #### that you call out as misinformation when someone reads something on social media and without doing any research they perpetuate misinformation. But when you get called out for it you really get offended and it's not your fault you didn't feel like getting all the details before jumping in feet first.

The detail about him being a lawyer or not doesn't change the rest of it, but since it bothers you so much;

My deepest apologies for not verifying Geraldsh's post. I'll have my editing department submit a correction to the editorial board.

Cool, now we can go back to Kenney taking taxpayer dollars as a final insult for his selling Alberta out by changing a 44 year old coal policy with zero public consultation. But hey, maybe if you tell him how much of a defender you are, he'll buy you a beer.

Sure bud.
It is technically incorrect to say Jason Kenney is a Lawyer working for the coal company.
It is actually correct to say Jason Kenney is employed by the coal company's law firm.

So yeah, he got JK's title wrong. But the fact that he's making money off of suing the government because of policy he enacted isn't misinformation.
At worst, calling him a lawyer is an honest mistake, which doesn't change the underlying truth of the issue.

This is a curious position. The liberals can form government without placating positions in places like Alberta that really hurt them elsewhere. So why would they suddenly change their minds if they get Alberta votes?

The NDP isn’t a serious party so not worth discussing.

Edit: I just realized this is the Alberta thread not the federal thread.

And the timing couldn’t be better! Just today the UCP president says that over half of that party supports independence. This could be hilarious going forward, as all he flirting and pandering to separatists is about to become a huge problem. Let’s have the election in March, right after a patriotic Olympics, and see how she fares.

Smith could cut off the fringe cold turkey if she wanted. She needs to grow a pair and tell Jeff Rath to screw off.

And probably lose a lot of rural seats to a new party, and the government with it. But if she doesn’t it’s a massive club the NDP can use. I think she’s kind of screwed.
