Rode over the bridge yesterday evening and it looks like the LED conversion is complete. The new pot lights look fantastic, I hope they survive much better than the version one lights.

I've noticed a few at the sound end already have the edging of the circular cut chipping away leaving an angled gap between the concrete and the metal fixture. I'm not sure if this was just a process deficiency at the start of the work or what, but it's kind of concerning.

Here's my issue with the new bridge lighting - it's a little too good. In the Winter, I ride north over the bridge at 6:00pm when the sun's gone down. The new lights are great, but they also destroy any night vision you have. You then get to the busy north end "T" intersection where's it's dark as soon as you get off the bridge.
Your night vision now shot - if you don't slow down and watch for pedestrians / cyclists, there's a good chance you miss someone and clock em. I slow down myself... but I'm not sure everyone will.

Man...talk about people complaining about Pedestrian Bridges!
"Oh it wasnt well enough lit, the lighting is flawed! Now we have to spend all this money to upgrade it!"
"Oh, now its too well lit and I have to wear sunglasses at night! Thanks Nenshi! And Corey Hart!"
Some of you people are impossible to please!

Ya, the upward deck lighting has caught my eyes a few times. I'm sure it will get dimmer as the lenses get scuffed. I didn't expect them to use the deck lights for illumination, just as markers.
A valid concern, hopefully when the west Eau Claire park starts being worked on (which includes that section connecting to the Peace bridge) they will incorporate lighting to make the pathway area there visible, and also improve the pathway from the current limited paths that are there.
So I 311'ed the extra long light timing for pedestrian crossings that they implemented after adding the second crossing. And the wonderfully responsive roads dept replied thusly:

Thank you for reporting your concern to the Roads, Traffic Signals Engineering Group. A Traffic Technician has reviewed your request and determined that, while there may be some cycles where the traffic demand exceeds the available green time for a particular phase, overall the signal timings are appropriate for the demands of the intersection during this time of day. We will continue to monitor the area and will make adjustments to the traffic signal timings if required.
Which is a canned response, becuase I wasn't talking about traffic volumes exceeding green times. I'm guess these ####ers just wanted it closed before Christmas. It was closed Dec 21. Calgary Roads Dept does it again!

You have to admit, that was pretty efficient.

What was the complaint? Maybe I missed it earlier in the thread, but if the issue is that the pedestrian signal is too long and holding up traffic, then isn't that a pretty accurate response? Is it a full set of traffic lights, or just a pedestrian crossing? Apologies if I missed it.
Pedestrian crossing. Before they added the second crossing at 9th, it used to take under a minute when you hit the button. Now it takes twice that, and a lot of people give up waiting and just J-walk. So my complaint was to put the timing back to how it was, becuase they have made it less convenient, and less safe. It also sucks when it is -25, and their is no traffic going by. Their response about traffic exceeding green times indicates it is a canned response, because my complaint had nothing to do with traffic not being able to get through on a green light.
It's basically a continued bungling of the crossing, whereby every decision they make just causes more problems.

This. What they should have done in the first place was remove the 7th st. crossing and put one at 8th st. inline with the Peace Bridge. Now we have 2 crossings, twice the traffic disruptions and people are still jay walking. Lose lose.

I have no idea how much this is going to cost, nor how much it should a project like this cost. But whatever it is, I know that I could have built it cheaper. This is an outrage. Grumble... silly hall... grumble... Spendshi.
Truthfully, this is long overdue. And I would imagine that it will help vehicular traffic flow as well as it will allow more efficient signal timings.
