So what precisely is he "pausing"?
It appears he's pausing the portion of tariffs above 10% on those countries that were part of the "Liberation Day" announcement, except for China. So take the French islands of St. Pierre and Miquelon off the coast of Newfoundland for instance, instead of being subject to 50% tariffs, they'll be subject to 10%... the 40% is paused.

Today was not a shining moment in the history of headline writers.

It's been a confusing day. As Verity said, it turns out Canada and Mexico are not getting a new 10 per cent tariff after all.

The White House reversed its earlier announcement in a new statement just now. Here's the bottom line: No new developments for Canada and Mexico today.

That means there are still worldwide 25 per cent tariffs on steel and aluminum, on some auto parts in North America, and on some goods traded within North America outside the rules of the Canada-U.S.-Mexico Agreement on trade (CUSMA).

Or government communications, or the English language.

I think the whole Trump 2nd term is basically just a market manipulation racket at this point.

Oh yeah this is gonna be the most corrupt administration in history by a country mile. Between market manipulation and straight up theft, it's gonna be monumental.

Don't forget the bribes! Lots of opportunities to ask for "favours" in exchange for exemptions to tariffs that cover everything. It's not a coincidence that Trump likes crypto.

Anyone taking bets as to how long until some retiree losing their life savings or somebody whose kid got measles is going to lose their #### and go postal on someone in that administration? Trump and co are really playing with fire here, and I’d be willing to wager that Luigi is not some one-off case.

Lutnick is now threatening more tariffs on Canada if we don’t remove our counter tariffs on auto that went into effect today, saying look how bad it went for China when they retaliated.

Didn’t Carney already warn them weeks ago that we were gonna retaliate? We don’t hear a peep from them during that time, and now suddenly they’re mad? F*** these a**holes.

He also praised Mexico for not retaliating at all so far.

I already bet months ago that Trump would not survive the summer.

Well ya, they tweeted their threat directly, so we should know better.

Totally normal government communications.

Wait for the martial law to deter protests.

It’s hilarious that these idiots think other countries will just take it up the a** and not retaliate.

Go ahead. We will stop your lumber, aluminum, and steel shipments and shut off electricity to your northern States. It might hurt right now but we need to follow China's lead here

I wish the election was done and dusted. It would be a lot more palatable to start to restrict the export of materials if we had Canadian projects for them to feed in to. Housing, pipelines, etc. Right now, it's a dangerous bluff.

Some of them will. Look at Keir Starmer.

Mexico as well. They seem content to just sit on the sidelines and not do anything.
