Rationale, Toronto improves D&G while getting a future asset. Utah gets a 90-100 pt 27 year old RW, Flames get an addition top 10 pick and a young C. Conroy has specifically said that he’s Looking for young players who might be buried or need a change of scenery.
Reasons why it’s unlikely; Marner’s NMC, Flames might not want to move Andersson, Utah might not want to move the pick or Hayton.
I was just interested in throwing something out there for discussion.

The Toronto deal is a blatantly awful deal for Calgary.
Two years of Andersson at 4.55M >> 1 year of Marner at 10.9M

The survey a couple years ago had Calgary on most lists (along with other Canadian teams except Toronto and Vancouver IIRC). Don't recall if AZ was. It'd be completely competitive based though because taxes and weather are pluses there. Their current lists would still be the 23-24 season lists, I think. I think they provide new lists in July? Or at the the beginning of the season?

In the states, the trend is now moving away from places like California, New York, Portland, Pennsylvania etc... and into places like Texas, Florida, and to a lesser extent Utah:
https://www.statista.com/chart/12484...federal-state/
If Marner is sick of the public eye in Toronto, Utah might be a good destination. Doesn't really matter if Calgary is on his NTC list, as the deal would likely be a 3 way, with an instant flipping and Marner in on the flip.

At first glance that Toronto deal looks pretty decent. But turning Markstrom and Andersson into a 10 million dollar UFA who helps you win more games in the regular season doesn't make sense.

I think the notion is to flip the UFA. If that flip is more than you can flip Markstrom and Andersson combined, OK. If not, it doesn't make sense at all.

Huge overpay for Marner.
Toronto NEEDS to move him. Gives them much less leverage.

Looks like you missed the point where the Flames trade Marner to Utah for 6OA and Hayton.
Marner at one year is irrelevant to the conversation.

The point is that Toronto is getting far too much value for Marner.

They need to? Technically, no.
How many 27 year old 90-100 point players are on the market. Put another way, at 27 Marner has out produced Gaudreau had at the same age. What do you think the trade proposals for Gaudreau would have been like back then? Pretty sure Flames fans weren’t looking to give him away for Pennie’s on the dollar.

You think a 27 year old 90-100 point RW is worth much less than a 34 year old goalie, 2D, and a late 1st?
I think that might be a bit light.

Yes, I certainly do considering I believe Ramus Andersson would garner more interest and value league wide at the moment due to his position, handedness, contract term, and cap hit. Marner may be the better player, but Andersson is the superior asset. Player values are not just based on point totals. Any Marner deal is an incredible tough trade to pull off.
Additionally, I also think that the struggles of guys like Huberdeau and Gaudreau with lesser talent around them would cause major warning signs for any team looking to acquire Marner. Is Marner a 90-100 point player on Utah and away from the league's top goal scorer? Is Marner a guy that teams view as a piece that will push them over the top in the playoffs? Is Marner a guy you want to commit 90+ million dollars to moving forward?

Yes, go find comparable trades for a UFA. Marner definitely won't get the 6th overall either even he is willing to sign an extension. He can probably be flipped for a top pair dman on an expiring deal or maybe a guy like Doughty if he would waive. Andersson has two years at a great cap hit. Marner's cap hit is prohibitive.
Marner is worth more than Stone but how much more than Brannstrom (recent 15th overall), Lindberg, and a 2nd. That was with an extension as well.

Fair points.
I will say though, it’s a lot easier to say why something won’t happen opposed to why it would.

Anderson is a right shot top pair defencemen on a deal contract for two more years. Individually marner is the better player, Anderson the more coveted position.
Anderson and our low first as far as i would go. Marner is a point producer yes a trenches guy no or toronto would have a better playoff record. I expected a first and good prospect plus average player for johnny if he had been traded, not much more winger is just not coveted its the add on when you have the rest of the team set.

Marner apparently hiring security and refusing to speak with the media:
https://nationalpost.com/sports/mitch-marner-allegation
Looks like a move outside of Toronto to a quieter market might be something on the table for Marner.

I heard a segment on the fan this morning that talked about Ottawa being a goaltender away from pushing for a playoff spot - they were something like 35-2 when they got .900 goaltending and 2-38 without it.
Markstrom + 9 for 7th overall. Add pieces around the edges as necessary.
Who says no? (Besides Markstrom, most likely.)

Flames. I don’t think it’s outlandish that Markstorm can get a 25 1st.

Considering there seems to be little difference between 7-9, or 3-10, this year. That seems like a hell of a price to move up two spots.
Flames say no.

I think people who think the Leafs are dealing from a position of weakness on this one are delusional.
Look what both Tkachuk and Eichel (with a broken neck) went for. Leafs will get a number of valuable pieces.
