yeah but maybe we'll get a Mypillow warehouse or something
and I suppose we can become a niche venue for producing films starring Rick Schroeder or Kevin Sorbo

I think a decent response in the first couple months of the pandemic actually slowed the spiral but it didn't last long.
I agree we should offer a hand to anyone who will grab it. But there are a lot of people who don't want to remember just how poorly the UPC preformed, and I'm not sure someone who is willfully forgetting is all that reachable.

For me the hilarious part is the amnesia over how ridiculed Notley was and non-ucp supporters were.
My IRL conversations usually had this:
- this is Alberta, you'd be silly to vote anything but conservative
- the NDP will RUIN this province
- smart people with business savvy vote conservative, stupid people vote NDP
Then the same folks ask for decorum now. "Please don't remind me of how awful the UCP is."
If we don't remind them, come ballot box time, they'll revert back to voting blue.
Till after the provincial vote in May 2023, I will always be skeptical of people who voted UCP before, but now say that they'll vote NDP.
ETA: just look at the Federal politics thread for how conservatives are conducting decorum.

It's exactly the same. If Bob from accounting gets sick its the same scenario as he spreads it in the office and you can lose the entire accounting department for a week. It's why I still have to wear an Instant Trace at work as the company doesn't want to lose entire departments at a time as it cripples the business.

Yup, can confirm. I have an extended family member who is bouncing around as extra etc and they 100% do this, for the exact reasons.
Shutting down filming, for any length of time, is killer. Having the unknown threat of COVID around like this likely be an immense impact to the industry in Alberta.

Boy, this anti-vaxxer policy sure seems anti-business. Conservatives should love it!

Seeing how Smith is working out, I remember when Kenney wasn’t as bad. I wonder if he would run again?
Just kidding, I have seen the light and I didn’t even get a free bulb.

So, we're 15 days into the Smith tenure... do we think she makes it to 45 to outlast Truss?

The head of the province vs a head of lettuce? Somebody needs to make this happen.

Despite the fact it feels more like 2 months than 2 weeks, yes I think she will. The only threat to her is as the election begins looming how hard the UCP's self-preservation instinct kicks in.

According to senior government sources, several ministers will be keeping their jobs, including Travis Toews in finance, Adriana LaGrange in education, Jason Copping in health and Tyler Shandro in justice.
Other ministers will be joining the ranks as well.
Mike Ellis is expected to head up a new portfolio of public safety; Jeremy Nixon will take over seniors and social support; Peter Guthrie will become Alberta's new energy minister; Todd Loewen will be assigned to forestry, parks, and tourism; and Brian Jean is in charge of jobs, economy and northern development.

Nathan Neudorf is expected to be named minister of infrastructure and deputy premier alongside Kaycee Madu, while Joseph Schow will be the house leader and not carry a portfolio.
Sources also confirm Jason Nixon, who was the former house leader, will not return to cabinet

I think so. It'd be hilarious if she didn't, but the mechanisms for her removal aren't quite the same as the UK.
It is interesting though. I spoke with a guy yesterday who voted for her and said "I didn't realise how many stupid things she had said." I wonder how common that sentiment is at this point?

Man, just shows you how weak the UCP's bench strength is, it's basically the same group of deplorables that brought down the previous government with a couple freedumbers brought back into the fold just for kicks.
Madu as deputy premier? Barf. Shields Up Dreeshan back in the fold? Oof.
