They could have even spun it better.. just remove SMS as a 2FA option entirely citing sim card cloning and say using an authenticator app is more secure.

So given an option, is SMS-based 2FA worse than not having anything? It seems like with the possibility of SIM swapping, it would be better if the hackers had to come across a very difficult passcode than to just get a simple password reset link.

In terms of security, hardware-based MFA > push notification-based MFA > authenticator app-based MFA > SMS-based 2FA > Nothing > Writing your passwords on a sticky note under your keyboard.

That said, give me authenticator app-based MFA any day of the week. Hardware-based MFA is inconvenient, and push notification MFA requires you to be online on that device too (meaning if you're paying for Wi-Fi on the plane, that's an extra device that needs to be connected).

Authenticator apps are quite common. Not upset if that's an option for Twitter.

It’s a Twitter option for now, unless Musk disallows it.

I guess in light of the leak/scraping incident of user ids/emails/phone numbers it might have been prudent to get rid of the SME 2FA altogether. Why even keep it for subscribers?

I still think this is an Elon troll job, mostly because I'm having a tough time believing he's THIS bad at it. I'm starting to think I could even do a better job at this, and I have zero business training whatsoever. Rule #1, just don't break your product..

I think you go to far with nepotism and luck to discount hard work. The tech billionaires are generally a good example of Hard work plus initial conditions that allowed them to be in the right monomer of time with the right resources and support at their disposal.

So a better way is that the bell curve of probable outcomes for your life is set by luck and hard work determines outcomes within those limitations. Maybe worth a a separate thread if others are interested.

In general I agree with your concept that class barriers are still robust and opportunity is not equal

About the 2FA, it's interesting because now Meta is launching a paid, verified account. It's launching in Australia, but it will likely be here soon enough. The problem for creators and people who run businesses is that things like Instagram have almost no security. If someone copies your account, steals all your work and you complain they kill both accounts. You lose everything! The most obvious thing is to be careful with relying entirely on one thing to run a business, but at the same time this verification would have an upside.

This smells a bit like desperation from Meta. I don't think it will bring much in, but maybe it is to get people used to paying so they can charge them in the Metaverse.

I’m doing maintenance on followers and those I follow and I’m seeing many that I know I didn’t follow. Well done, Elon.

Never seen this before. The tweet is about/slams Telsa, so if you try to like it or share it you get a pop up that says something about finding out more and reliable info or something. Unreal.

Its not really much of a surprise though.

Tesla got to the trough first, but once the Major Manufacturers started catching up and Tesla's competitive advantages started dwindling, which was always only a matter of time, Tesla was getting their face caved in and they fell back on relying on the brand they'd built.

This hip, new EV paradise founded by 'Great Fearless Leader!' The smartest man on Earth! He makes rockets and tweeters and and all of these amazing gadgets!

But once he's opened his mouth and proven himself to be a raving crackpot lunatic sociopath that shine has rapidly started wearing off and fracturing his demographics. They either love him or hate him. He's either a genius or an idiot. The middle ground has evaporated.

Compound that with the fact that his promising new tech either barely works or not even that, the quality of his product, despite ample time to rectify and perfect, is middling to poor considering the price-point.

The Tesla as an electric car seems quite good. The Tesla as a 'Luxury Car' which its largely priced at...is not.

I always though Teslas looked so boring, like a civic or a toyota, if I'm dropping 60 or 70 grand on something I want it to look like a 5 series or a lexus, they may be great cars and worth every penny but they dont look like they cost more than 20,000

The only model with any style is the S version but that's $130 grand+, the ev-mustang is just as nice for half the price and the Audi's and Porsche's are 3X the car for about the same money.

I cannot believe the Model X costs over $140k. The last Uber I took had one, it was my first time sitting in a Tesla and I was unimpressed. The interior felt very cheap, the ride was rough with a lot of road noise, and the giant ipad in the middle of the dash is very ugly. I had no idea on the price of a Model X so I looked it up during the drive and I was blown away. I wouldn't even pay half that price for that car, it's nuts that they're trying to price themselves the same as Mercedes or Porche
