^ I dunno. And all the hype over the Zack Snyder version like it was the second coming of Christ. Still so cheesy. It would be nice if they actually catered to adults and not have a villian so over the top and typical. The protagonists were pretty cheesy as well.
Why was “Justice League” made?? This is horrible. It’s so much singing, air-brushed actors, and bad CGI.
Okay....I didnt like it. The Theatrical Version was....like an Alien saw a movie and thought...'Hold my beer.'
The Snyder Cut, while, admittedly better....I give no credit because it got a 4-year gap to redo a poor film and then pushed out a 4-hour long mess.
I mean, sure, its slightly better than what we got before but you also got ton of extra time, money and feedback. Its like that kid who takes a test, fails it spectacularly, asks to re-take it, gets to take it home to study the answers and then still barely passes it.
Nobody is slapping that kid on the back and telling him he did a great job of sheer mediocrity.
However, that brings me back to my original thought....singing? What singing?
Because if Zack Snyder wants to re-release the Snyder cut as some sort of opera then I suggest someone get control of that man. His ego is out to lunch.

At the beginning in Iceland with Aquaman. It went on for an uncomfortable amount of time. I suspect pandering to the "oh, this is so beautiful!" crowd. Similarly, all of the other ethereal sounding background music that is supposed to lend gravitas to scenes.
I hate singing in movies, and I hate slow-freaking-motion. Bullet time was only cool in the Matrix, and it has never been cool or interesting since. It makes scenes look bad and fake, and they always make the slow-motion scenes too long.

Recently purchased Ghost in the Shell (1995 anime) and Ghost in the Shell 2 : Innocence (2004 anime) on a blu-ray, and watched it with a couple of friends.
So highly recommended! Obviously the first movie is a classic worth seeing just for it's historical value, such a great looking movie, lots of cool visual ideas (since stolen for a million other movies), and one of my all-time favorite soundscapes in any movie. Story is IMO honestly just okay, but luckily the movie also knows to quit early with a runtime of just 82 minutes.
Ghost in the Shell 2 : Innocence was a big surprise, as it was at least for me essentially on par with the original, which is such a rare thing. It's a standalone sequel with some of the same characters, but a style and tone that's quite distinctively different from the original. It's obviously not going to be as groundbreaking and brilliant in every aspect, but I liked the plot of this movie a lot more. The first movie is kind of a spy thriller, but the factions are described in such a threadbare way it's ultimately not that interesting and feels like a distraction. Innocence on the other hand has a fairly straightforward film noir detective story, which IMO suits this kind of a movie really well.
Of course I'm also just a sucker for film noir, so that might play into it
Innocence bombed at the box office and has a reputation for being difficult to follow, but I really can't understand where that comes from. Sure there's a few pretty jarring moments relating to the themes of these movies (altering memories and identity of cyborg humans through hacking). It's not really that complicated stuff, there were six of us watching these films and we all agreed the second movie was actually easier to follow.
Some of the visuals in Innocence movie are just a-ma-zing, easily worth the time investment on their own. Especially considering it's a heavily CGI animated movie from 2004 it's really quite an achievement. (Obviously technically some things aren't going to be up to modern standards, but the visual design ideas more than make up for it.) Studio Ghibli was involved in the process, and you can tell in the best way.
So, if you like Ghost in the Shell, do yourself a favor and also check out Innocence. It's really, really good.
Oh and if you haven't seen Ghost in the Shell (anime), do yourself a favor and check it out. But don't watch it with English dialogue, the main characters line are given such a hammy treatment in the English dub that it really hurts the dry, melancholic and intellectual atmosphere.
If you liked Blade Runner 2049, I think there's a really good chance you'll like Innocence. (IMO Innocence is easily the superior movie out of the two.)

I feel like that's pretty much a boilerplate statement for any anime. The English dubs are always awful. I remember when I was stuck in Chile, I threw on Netflix and watched some Friends in Spanish (I've got most of them memorized so the dialogue was fairly irrelevant). Apparently is loses a lot when "How you doin" doesn't have a direct translation, or any comedic timing.
Thanks for the post though, this has been on my list for a while and just keeps getting neglected (like, for 20 years). I saw a post on FB Marketplace with someone selling a Ghost in the Shell VHS tape. Must be kismet - now I'm going to watch it Monday night.

So much potential. I told my wife I wasn't sure if I should have massive expectations or none at all.
The beginning was awesome. The actor who plays Hanzo Hasashi is one of my favorite actors ever. That whole beginning sequence really set the bar for me.
Too bad the rest of it was very campy. But I had prepared myself for the campiness. So I wasn't so disappointed I had to turn it off.
I felt Raiden and Shao Khan in particular were miscast. Just didn't feel right
Cool fight scenes. Not knock em outta the park, but fun.
As campy as Kung Lao was, I actually found him quite entertaining.
Overall, entertaining 1.5 hrs. Don't watch w much expectation though.

Nobody was pretty freaking fun. Still hard to believe that a guy who made skits about #### ring emporiums is in a film like this and considered one of the best actors on TV.

Odenkirk was just on Conan O'Brien's podcast recently, and they talked about a sketch he did when he was a writer/performer on the Ben Stiller Show in the 90s. Conan was trying to describe it and couldn't stop laughing. This is it:

I dunno, Mr. Show is genius level sketch comedy. The tone of that particular sketch is what makes it so funny. Making something like #### rings banal and/or boring is hilarious.
NSFW!
Odenkirk has always been a very high level writer and was at least an average performer back then, but has learned the craft over time. I think he was just starting to find his groove when he landed the Breaking Bad role, but then he really grew in the lead of Better Call Saul.

Not a movie but if you haven't watched Superstore yet stop everything and go now.
Great show. It is actually done now to, seasons 1-5 are on Netflix and Amazon Prime and season 6 you can buy on Itunes for 20 bucks if you can't wait like me.
Also Yellowstone. So good.
Watching Mcmillions now.

2) Paul "Oh god! What a breakthrough!" and proceeds to collapse into a puddle for the rest of the sketch. Nobody seems to take notice of his severe pain.
####ing kills me every time.

Nobody was pretty entertaining. Had some good funny moments.
We watched Mortal Kombat and liked it as well. Sub Zero, Scorpion and Kano quite easily the best parts of the film. Raiden was a big WTF. As long as you remember it's mostly an easter egg film for those who played the games and not to take it seriously, it's decent enough. The wife and I like it much better than the 90s film. I never really understood the MK storyline all that well from the games, but I thought this movie tied it in a bit for me.

Agreed. Assuming you meant Shang Tsung and I didn't miss Shao Kahn showing up, I felt that the actor and appearance would have been more suited for a parody movie of Mortal Kombat. Raiden felt like he came from a fan made YouTube video where someone's uncle was playing the part.
Kano vs Lui Kang's was hilarious. Kano in general was by far the best part.
Spoiler!
But like why not just give us Sonja, Lui and Luke getting prepared by Raiden. It's what we want. Having some random new character be the star of the show and no actual tournament I think was bizzare. Leaned into some of the game a lot, "flawless victory" etc. while subverting expectations elsewhere (no pit falling fatality, Goro dying earlier than others)
Had this been a fan made video it, condensed by about a half hour of useless plot, I would have given it great praise. As a an actual movie, it's like a bad campy B-movie.
I rewatched 24 Hour Party People this weekend. It's based on Tony Wilson's book about the Manchester music scene he helped build. Steve Coogan plays Wilson in sort of a mockumentary style except it's mostly based in fact. Think Spinal Tap if they were a real band. It's a crazy story and Coogan is always good for a ton of laughs.
