I bet the Canucks draft him.

Beating the canucks in the last game would be the cheer on top for this season that went about as well as first year of a rebuild can go. Picking 4th would be nice but if we end 5th oh well, just gotta trust the scouts and management to pick the best player at that spot moving forward.

How about that stat about the Caps being the best team in recent years in April? Something near a .800 points percentage or maybe even wins? Regardless, the Isles will be in tough, especially since the Caps, thanks to Columbus, will be playing for their lives. This probably isn't the Isles' game in hand to pin our hopes on, but they have been playing well. Will still be interesting.
Maybe they are laying it all out though to finish as high as they can to forego this years first in favor of next years? I don't think anyone totally 'tanks', but maybe extra motivation is pressured from top down to achieve this. After all, Capuano was and maybe still is skating on thin ice, so perhaps it just boils down to wanting to keep his job. I've watched some Isles games during their little run here, and do feel there is extra incentive perhaps for one of those reasons.
Could bode well for us.
Edit: The highest they can finish is 6th last, as they are 6 points behind the Jets. Considering things really drop off after the 4th or 5th pick though, they may still feel picking outside the top five would warrant them handing this year's pick over to Buffalo. The only guy generally projected outside of that range and who i like more and more is Ritchie. He's shaping up to be a good big power forward who skates well for a big guy. They might take him if he's still there. Thoughts?

Got to wonder what the story is here, and if whatever reasons Team Canada has also drops him to the 2nd round.

Hockey Canada gets weird hate on for certain people. I'd pick him if he was around in the 2nd round. He's talented.

It isn't just Hockey Canada however. You do hear about some rumors regarding character issues with this kid. If the Flames interview him and decide to pass on him even with their last second round pick, I wouldn't be upset, as it means they think he is a headcase. One rotten apple can ruin the bunch after-all. Talent has never been a question mark.

Is that Wotherspoon on the Under 18 camp roster Tyler's brother? Same hometown.

Oh I agree with that. I just wouldn't pre-judge him. People can grow and mature.

Yes, they certainly can. Some organizations never want to take the risk as a prospect can end up negatively affecting the rest of their prospects. Some organizations feel they can help a kid mature and don't place as much of an emphasis on it. You do often see 'headcases' being drafted, so it does happen and it happens with frequency.
I just don't think it will happen on the Flames. They seem intent on selecting prospects with high character traits, and have been doing so for a number of years now. To see Burke come out and essentially say the same thing tells me that they will continue to do so. I am sure they will interview Ho-Sang for themselves to be sure - the kid has some talent, there is absolutely no arguments from anyone in that category. I just think if they confirm for themselves any hint of a character issue, they will just cross him off the list much like they seemed to have done with Shinkaruk.

In case Ekblad is not available for us and Fleury is gone after our pick at 4/5, Are there any good defenseman in the second round? The only guy I know of is Roland McKeown, but we'd have to probably trade for Anaheim's late first to pick him up if we really wanted to get him since he is projected to be a late first pick.

McKeown would be a nice pick up. From what ive read, Tj Brodie like but with a right handed shot.
This draft is going to be all over the map I think. Rankings are going to mean squat outside of the top 4 or 5 picks.

Most rankings I've seen have McKeown just behind Fleury between 10-20.
Would be very difficult and costly to grab another first just outside the top ten.

Too lazy to search, but are there lists with the top 10 defenseman in the draft?

I posted a list of d men that could fall to the late 1st or early 2nd round a few months back, still think its pretty much relevant
http://forum.calgarypuck.com/showthr...er#post4538114
Think a few names you could add are Aaron Irving, Alex Peters, and Ben Thomas to that list.
edit: looking back Brycen Martin's stock has fallen quite a bit, was projected to be a mid 1st round pick at the start of this season
also DeAngelo's might have fallen off a lot of team's radars since he was suspended for abusing a teammate

I guess I am a sucker for RH shooters this year, because I want Dougherty or Jacobs, or Varien because of his size.

Flames and Islanders tied with 73 points, but because the Islanders have 1 game in hand; Flames sit below the Islanders as of now.

Sportsclubstats is also showing if the flames get more than 4 points in their remaining games the odds will flip to the Flames more likely finishing ahead of the islanders.
if the Flames get 3 or less points in the remaining games the odds they finish below the Islanders is 78% or higher

I'm guessing 5-7 points for the Isles and 4-6 points for the Flames.
